so i want to finally buy my own equipment and could use a little advice....
i'll probably never wear less than my Bare 5/3 (obvious www), Ive used it comfortably in 72-85F water even in the warmer climes I like full protection from critters and have yet to overheat. With this suit and a typical rental BC I need at least 12 lbs of lead in fw and 15 in sw (w/ rental AL 80's, which is probably what I will keep using for the time being). So Im thinking a SS bp would be nice as it would take 6 lbs off my waist and Ill still have some ditchable weight. Couple this with a 27lb pioneer wing and I think Id be happy in anything above 70F. And if I ever get sick of wearing a suit in warm water I suppose I could always buy an AL bp later as its pretty cheap and still have a good rec rig for warm diving.
I also live in New England and would like to do some local stuff too, and we dont see 70F around here too often. So I plan on buying a thicker suit for this. My limited experience w/ 2-piece 7mm suits had me wearing around 30 lbs, which was obviously not too comfy on my 31 waist! So here again the SS bp will help some maybe Id even add an STA for cold diving too to get even more weight off my belt. But then it looks like the 27lb pioneer will not be enough (unless I learn some kung-fu from UP as he seems to be able to do this) so perhaps a 36 lb wing will be a reasonable trade-off: not quite as streamlined, but more versatile for the conditions I want to dive in.
Finally, my questions:
1. Does this sound like a decent plan, or does anyone have a better recommendation?
2. Will the 36lb pioneer be adequate for cold stuff (wearing maybe 24lb lead + 6 lb bp)?
Any other advice? Thanks,
Chris
