Here are my notes on the compass:
While you cant hold it vertical and get a reading it does seem to have about the same play (maybe a little less) than a analog compass.
The more level it is the more accurate it is.
After about 10 to 15 degrees the readings seem off.
This is no different than an analog compass when the card brushes the top of the compass.
Being next to a wreck does not alter the reading more than a few degrees.
This is vastly more accurate than analog compass.
Being next to a magnetic object seems to make the compass very inaccurate.
(What compass wouldn't be?)
Getting a line of site reading is more difficult.
My conclusion is that this compass is great for a quick references and reading general direction. The fact that it's not effected by steel objects is great. I wouldn't try to use it to make a survey.
