Very creepy....so I am wondering what other creepy things have been found?

Don't know if this qualifies, as I'm pretty new at this and I'm sure you've all seen creepier, but nonetheless, these two things, on the same dive, creeped me out a bit....

On the surface swim out, on my first dive at Edmonds Underwater Park (near Seattle), I come across two wetsuit-style boot heels sticking out of the water. I'm sure I've just come across a dead, bloated diver whose feet are floating at the surface; my mind starts racing as to what's floating just under the surface. I cringe and put on my mask and take a peek under water.......!!!!!!!!!!......it's kelp....heart-rate slows and I get on with the dive.

We swim out a bit further and descend...my buddy swims off as I'm struggling with the long lanyard on my camera that's wrapping itself around my neck (I've since learned better) and I come across a mass of fish doing something weird. I pull firmly on my newly purchased tank-banger and let it go, trying to get my buddy's attention (something is clearly going on here, and he should come check it out...or at least protect me from the swarms of fish ) and I find to my dismay that I (me, I, me) can't even hear my silly little tank banger ($5 bucks wasted, oh well)...my buddy swims off and I slowly approach this flurry of fish....

After seeing the dead body above (er, the kelp buds, I mean) I'm ready for something nasty, as it appears a body is indeed lying on the ocean floor being eaten by all manner of fish...

I swim right up to the corpse and stick my nose right into the middle of the purple, white, grey and brown mass of fish swimming about it...

It's a grey and black harbor seal, a big (dead) one, being eaten from both ends.

Its head is a boney, skully, pinky, mushy, masticated mess. Its tail is being feasted upon by all manner of creatures. Thousands of these "vultures of the deep" swim around me as I position my camera to take a picture. I look into the the LCD display and see only grey...my enclosure has fogged up and I'm not going to be bringing this creepy picture back hom....something's GOT ME!!! It's a shark!!

Oh, "hi there buddy...you see this creepy dead seal corpse? My camera's fogged up so you better take a good look, cuz we ain't coming back with any cool, morbid pictures." He makes the "vomit" / "Ewww, that's yucky" sign and we swim off.

Creepy? I dunno, but I was looking over my shoulder every few minutes for the rest of the dive. Thankfully no weird shark dreams that night.

What the heck is this all about???? More details please!!

On the FL east coast there are many days that the water is very clear thus you can see a looooong way. Well, when doing a swim in from the ever so close reefs, its a shame to want to surface swim back since its so beautiful under there so you just follow the compass on W until you get to shallow water, stand up and take off your fins and walk in... in this case, I had followed W off the cannons (a spot right off hibiscus drive in lauderdale by the sea) and happened to look forward when in about 6' of water and realized I was looking at a flabby g-stringed ole lady/man butt directly in my path... said "uhhhhh.... no!" through my reg, turned 90 degrees to N, gave a few kicks, turned back 90 to W and kept going.. my buddy, who was not towing the flag, kept right on going by like the bubbly spectre..... :D

Woland! Thats just spooky!!

Well I dont know if this is classed as creepy but it is certainly exciting.
I was diving with a group of 6 and I was with my buddy . Not far , only around 15 M down.
we came across a box , it was wrapped in a sort of brown packaging and about 60 cm x 30 cm x 20 cm. peeled off some of the outer packing with a knife and it seemed like it was wrapped in a black plastic or bin bag underneath. We left it alone but my buddy said that occasionally he has come across these same 30 kg packs before up and down the coast .
Turns out they are either marijuana resin blocks or cocaine . Just think of the street value of that lot ( 30 kg ) !
As a rule if you see something like this then just go away and best keep quiet . Even if you report it to the police they get a bit suspicious of you.
Only other thing I found of value which was worth keeping was a sport 100m water resist titanium case watch ( worth 250 euros ) it was in great condition and I wear it every day .

The rules and regulations are different all over the world. Most of what you do underwater is up to your own feelings of the "right thing" to do. Human remains found underwater should be marked if possible and authorities notified. Depending on the depth they may request you recover them. Some Public Safety Diver orgs. will not go below a set depth for thier own safety. You can report bones as well but may not get much assistance if the location does not fit a disapearance.

The US has declared any Military or Naval wreckage thier property and thus protected, however, very difficult to police. Brits have the same "gravesite" issues, however, both countries have been known to salvage these "gravesites" if valuables are contained.......you as the public may not! Once again, do YOU feel its wrong to take something YOU found underwater.

In Canada the Reciever of Wrecks owns anything underwater. You have to file a claim and then they keep it for one year. If insurance companies, historians and Goverment don't care about your find, you can then keep it.

After alot of work helping our dive recovery teams and watching them in action and seeing, working with etc some of the unfortunate souls lost in the depths I would do as one of the previous posters and shoot a marker bag then call in the boys who are being paid.

As far as the "gravesite" issue this seems to be more of a modern view point or one of convienience. In the past most ship wrecks that could be, were plundered and alot of the bodies stripped of valuables. Things were looked upon as "Treasure" instead of grave robbing. Its up to how YOU feel and what YOU want others to be able to see.

If you look at the Empress of Ireland, the local diver stripped as much as he could over many years. Then he got mad when others were doing the same so he had the Quebec Government turn it into a protected site, no one is now allowed to take anything. You would think that the guy would have turned over his loot to a museum and indeed some items made it. The kicker is he tried to sell most of it to the highest US bidder until the Canadian Goverment squashed it.

in the uk you have to declare everything recovered and if it is of historical value, then it is put in a museum and (i think) you get a finders fee.

I found a human femur last year 100 yard off the back of the Chester Poling off Gloucester. I left it where it was among the rocks, the capt and my buddies said I should have brought it back topside. I though you should let the dead rest in peace. Unless your searching for a d/b.
Where are the Jersey divers? I expected a few mob bodies found. Sid

Jersey Divers? WE find NOTHING! And even though we do like swimming with the fishes - still we wouldn't wanna do it 24/7!

Creep..y... Found a German Me-109 (I think) with the pilot's remains in the Baltic sea once... The plain was intact (except for a few bullet holes - corrosion wasn't that bad (especially since that Nazi had been under water for at least 55 years at that time)... Glass was still in, swastika was visible after clearing off the silt. Didn't report it and never will - he doesn't deserve a grave!

I was diving with Reef Guy off Venice Beach when he came across half of a leg bone. It kind of creeped us out, but he had it examined, and it was from a sheep. We were glad it wasn't part of human remains.

Many, many years ago, my dad was diving on the Mexican Pride off St. Pete, FL and one of the guys on the charter was spearfishing. There was a rather large Goliath Grouper (600 lbs or so), and spearing them was legal (like I said, many, many years ago!). The group was on their second dive and everyone was getting close to their max bottom time, so they signaled to surface. One diver decided to stay down, in hopes to nab that Goliath Grouper. They waited and waited, but he never surfaced. They reported the incident to the Coast Guard, but nobody had any bottom time (or any remaining air in the tanks) to go and search for the guy. About a year later, one of the divers from the trip was back at the Mexican Pride, and found the guy's complete set of gear about 100 feet from the reck. He recovered it all, but not even the bones were there.

My dad also co-owned a dive shop in St. Pete, and provided all the tanks to the recovery divers for the Skyway Bridge tragedy. He was also asked to operate the body collection point at Ft. DeSoto State Park. A tour bus had gone over the edge, did half a flip, and impacted the water (the roof hit the water first). Being that tour buses don't have seatbelts, he said all the heads were completely smashed in. He had to fight of reporters who wanted pictures that would NEVER have made their way into the newspapers. He said that was the worst day of his life, and he still has to fight those memories from time to time.

way to go!

it happened 60 years ago, more than enough time has passed to forgive and forget.

he could have family that would like closure on what has happened.

the least you could have done was report it!

the world will never move forward with small town attitudes like that!!!
