You help me make my point, if the lionfish can even invade your computer just think what it can do to our reef system. Kill them all, only then will the reefs....and your computer monitor's be safe.:D

A quick update from the Bahamas. Dove several spots off the north and western shore of
New Providence on Saturday. Didn't see as many in groups as at other times, still saw a
number of individuals. I was scooter free diving and shooting video along the wall off
Lyford Cay, a wreck in those parts and an area off Rose Island to the east. Saw one on the
wreck but caught three on video that I missed? Saw another one on the wall at about 90 ft.
in a small cavern. Saw a single lionfish in a weathered depression largely out in the open
near sunset off Rose Island. They say lionfish go out from the grottos and wrecks after
sunset to range and feed across the bottom in the open. Have folks actually observed this though?

Tim:

I like the "Morbid Mondays" idea, but I also saw they also have "T-back Thursdays" advertised as 1/2 off for WOMEN in t-backs. Please don't think they'll let you dive for
half price if you show up in a Hello Kitty bikini. :)

When do you want to go kill some lion fish?????

just got back from the Bahamas (Nassau) saw 3 lionfish in less than 10 fsw... saw them behind the Sheraton where we were staying!

The OP was unsettling so I trudged thru all 8 painful pages hoping to find a reason not to post this:

rcpalmer - you flamed a reputable, exceptionally well-run Op for not engaging in behavior that the experts advise not to do and few people have actually done successfully. Or I'm wrong, since your profile claims instructor status and you posted you have 1000+ dives.
I had the good fortune to dine w/ a REEF employee and asked about the best way to kill lionfish. In addition to reiterating the info everyone, except apparently you, has found by performing the difficult task of reading REEF's statement (for your reference http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/fl...-lionfish-here-what-reef-org-wants-us-do.html ), I was told these things are VERY fast, very difficult to kill, and after they escape they avoid divers. REEF has study data; opine all you want, you're still wrong. This is why REEF came up w/ the bag system to catch them. Also, since lionfish learn to avoid divers, after all the no-aim-but-take-my-speargun-anyway-to-compensate-for-my-teenie-weenie guys give up failing to kill them, it will be more difficult for the people who actually know what they're doing to eradicate the species. But, hey, thanks for playing.

If you're not rcpalmer & want to flame me cuz YOU have good aim, start your flame w/ a detailed account of how YOU killed a lionfish. Not your buddy, not your neighbor, not some guy you read about. You. I'll see rcpalmers' $20 & raise $50; I bet the number of meateaters will be substantially less than the number of posters.

Not that it matters, but does anyone KNOW (oppose to speculate) if the OP incident involved an actual lionfish? A good DM recently stopped my insta-buddy from killing a scorpionfish ...

Full disclosure: I don't know, don't work for, nor am related to Walker. I had the good fortune to dive w/ him & would recommend him to anyone. If you don't know me, I rarely post like this, but flaming Walker with such vehemence was dangerously unwarranted.

Painful why? Because you're terribly misinformed and myopic?

Really? Lionfish are so prolific and speared so frequently you wouldn't believe it. The company I work for has a restaurant in the Bahama's and regularly serves freshly speared lionfish for happy hour. You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.....NONE!!!!

Very fast and evasive? unlike you I've actually seen lionfish in the water and they are the most fearless, non elusive fish I have ever seen. They totally stand their ground when approached by a diver.

I haven't killed one....yet, hell, I haven't even seen one in South Florida but as a regular diver in the Bahamas I, unlike you, have seen the problem firsthand and can assure you I will succesfully kill everyone I see here, I'll be happy to PM you pics of the carcasses.

There were numerous witnesses to this event, you're just looking for ways to discredit the OP now.

Did you even read this thread? Every claim was against a female DM on the boat, not Walker and most of the people opposed to her behavior have still had positive things to say about the dive op. Hmmm, anybody alse smell an agenda here?
