OH I am sure somebody passed a law I have to have this blinky and that light here or no, there.

And this tax sticker and that safety course...and it sucks

because police are being pressured or instructed to get revenue

you should feel blessed.
sorry, I don't

I'm getting more bike ticket threats than decades in my car

Ride naked. I wouldn't give ya a ticket. You may get pulled over but you won't get a fine. The question I have is why do some of them wear such funny looking hats? Look more like street car conductors and those guys who patrol yellowstone. A trooper should have a hat that says " mess with me and I'll blow your brains out!" Something with horns or spikes I think.

See? None of these Americans seem to even KNOW if you must carry ID in the United States

so they say ride naked, blondes get stopped, google the statutes

its sad. wake up America

Ok, before this thread gets out of hand....

Most cities and towns have their own ordinances which address things such as bicycle lighting, registration, etc. I wasn't with your son when he was stopped, so I can't say either way. I can tell you that the 3 possible options that happened are: 1. Your kid was too close and the officer took action since he was told to enforce such infractions...maybe due to a recent incident where a biker fell off the platform. 2. Your kid got lippy and the cop isn't man enough to just let it go. 3. Maybe the officer was having a bad day and took it out on your kid. We are only human, and we have bad days too.

In regards to the "silly hats", I agree! I'm thankful that I have the traditional police hat with the rounded top (not the 8 pointed one). And, where I'm from, we routinely make fun of trooper hats, we call them screw tops. I only have to wear my hat in the rain or at a funeral. Thankfully it rains a lot more...

what law is there that says I should have to carry ID with me?

If I'm out exercising (running, etc) I don't carry an ID with me.

I don't agree that you should have to identify yourself to police if asked either. I have a right to privacy and just because some cop doesn't know who I am, then he doesn't (or should have) the right to know if I haven't done anything wrong....

Eh??

Are you saying that you know all of the laws where you live? I highly doubt that.
I'm a law officer and, after 13 years on the job, I still have to look up some stuff.

Oh, and I don't stop blondes any more than anyone else. Besides, at 2am, it's hard to tell what color someone's hair is.

Wake up Catherine!

What I am saying is that I see a trend in my life with being over-policed over trivial things that are not the types of crimes I would like to see the police emphasis on.

Consider this:

Because society has become so wild and self centered safety has become an overwhelming concern. Violence is everywhere because others are not as important as "me".

We all know that if we attack a problem when it is small it is easier and less painful to correct than once it has gotten out of hand. There is a growing movement towards attacking the small things, stopping the behaviors before they lead to more aggresive ones.

It is not a bad thing for them to try. Just locking up murders and rapests is reactive and does not protect the victim. If we can all get to the point that we quit focusing on ourselves and look at everyone around us with respect and caring, small corrective measure would go a long way.

Individualism and freedom are not the most graceful companions.....

Yes, you are correct, there isn't a law that says you must have ID with you at all times.

And, again you are correct, you don't have to give an officer your info just because they ask. They have to meet the standard of Terry vs Ohio. At that point, we can demand that you identify yourself.

thats what I am trying to say, I think that just quietly changed with the *In Hiibel v. Sixth Judicial District Court of Nevada, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld *

http://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/03-5554.ZS.html

Petitioner Hiibel was arrested and convicted in a Nevada court for refusing to identify himself to a police officer during an investigative stop involving a reported assault. Nevada’s “stop and identify” statute requires a person detained by an officer under suspicious circumstances to identify himself. The state intermediate appellate court affirmed, rejecting Hiibel’s argument that the state law’s application to his case violated the Fourth and Fifth Amendments. The Nevada Supreme Court affirmed.

I do know if you must carry ID in the United States, I leaned that in my civics class in High School (when I also learned that Social Security numbers and cards were not to be used for identification, at least according to the enabling legislation).

It's a fact that traffic stops are a major form of abuse (blonds, young women, minorities, etc.).
