This is what I use on the dive boat as my SMB.

You can inflate with power inflator or Orally if needed :thumb:

Let's just say that when I shoot this to the surface, that I'm always the first one that the boat crew comes to pick up when they see my SMB hit the surface :thumb:

Aftershock109, glad to hear the good news. Keep at it in a prudent matter and it will work out ok I bet. :thumb:
Don, Chip is a strong personality and he doesn't appreciate poor ideas. If he thinks you have one, he calls you on it. Unfortunately, he has found more than a few of your ideas, poor. This does not mean he is stalking you or any of the other names you have called him and anyone who is in agreement with him.
Sorry, I have been off line for a few days. I see y'all are still at it. I was thinking of your claim that this Chippy you referenced "has found more than a few of your ideas, poor" is something you think you have seen? How many? Remember about what? Or is this claim something you heard, from Chippy perhaps...?

I remember some of the gang going on about my Testing thread about various ways to display pics on the board here. I was working on a how-to thread to be posted later, but didn't like all the guano that was added to it pointlessly so edited my info out rather than try to deal with the crap. It was deleted and I received a PM to notify when such happened again with that gang, but the Mods have enough other things to deal with so I often don't. It is funny how that gang objects to the use of the Report button, tho.

Ah there was my Non-diving thread about the perils of flip-flops. Yeah, they let me have it on that one. I think I will stick with the warnings from foot specialists but let it go otherwise.

Oh yeah, that gang has jumped me for other ideas, but not for anything important. It's just something they do, jump on me, and hope that others will join in. I do wonder about what background work goes into these childish assaults and how they have their gang alerts set up, but not much.
Making sure no one thinks a white garbage bag is a good idea is a much better contribution than letting people think it is a good idea.
You know, that just might be a great idea if you did present good info, rather than crap.
Okay, honey, you are making no sense whatsoever.
Honey?
I will glad to expand. I didn't mention your mirror, smb, or whistle, because they are all very good safety devices.
Thank you. One of the gang did ridicule those suggestions, but I feel they are good ones, and the only suggestions I actually made.
You said that you carry a white trash bag to shine a light in if you are out at night and drifted off. This is silly for several reasons.
1. trash bags are very loose and of weak material. They are just as likely to tear as you take them out of a pocket.
2. In the water, they will be hard to handle because they are such thin plastic.
3. You can shine your dive light up a smb and get a tall tube glow that extends up above waves, where a trash bag will be only right on the surface.
4. In waves of any size at all, the trash bag is easily hidden.

If you want, get a yellow smb that you can shine the light in. Problem solved.
Thank you again for the only rational comment against the idea yet. Truthfully, I got the extra idea from a seasoned captain and have carried them, but never practiced with them. I will now stop mentioning them at all at least until I give them a try next time I do practice dives in New Mexico. As I said, I am all for corrective posts; I just have no patience for childish caca that usually comes when the gang piles on one - like the pacifier image above, etc.
Now, when talking to me, be respectful, quit making dismissive assumptions and listen to responses. I am happy to discuss anything, but I get my back up when someone pouts and calls me names. If you want me to expand and explain, simply ask. I am happy to.
I don't know you. I get many faceless Usernames confused really, but I did not mean to insult you personally. I get defensive when the gang and friends post against me without rational information, but then I can't read minds so I can't tell the difference between gang postings others until you post the info like you did.
Now, about Chip(Onespeed). I have had the pleasure to meet him. He was kind enough to actually open his home to a person from across the world, who he had only known from this online forum. Last year for ITK, he met me, put me up at his home, was a gracious host, and even lent me his steel tanks for ITK!!! Who does that? He is witty and sarcastic. He is very intelligent. You may hate him all you want, but I know he is a fine man. I am proud to be his friend. If you want to lump me in as a gang, or any of the petty names you call him, I guess that is OK with me.
Oh that one. Glad he was nice to you, whatever his motive. I don't hate him; just don't care for the caustic guano he throws my way.
really? you should have told us!

we could have hooked you up!
Like I'd trust any of y'all on that? :shakehead:

I need no motives to do a favor for a friend and resent any implication therein, don't project your twisted normalcy on me. And the only guano is your ridiculous attempts at dive advice. Bringing trash bags into the sea Don? Now THAT's guano,

Would it be more DIR to use black trash bags?

A ScubaBoard Staff Message...

Ok y'all, I think everyone has made their point. So let's stop the personal attacks and continue with a good conversation. It's ok to disagree and I think that the white trash bag horse has been done beat to death. :deadhorse:

Carry on!

I don't get it. One moderator splits off a tangent from another thread, and creates this thread.

The next post (not split from the original thread) is from another moderator, chastising folks.

Instead of beating dead horses, let's kick the posters when they are down!

The environmental impact of lost plastic in the ocean should justify the outrage of attempting to legitimize carrying trash bags. If one person does it, the impact is small. If 150,000 SB users adopt this habit, it could be a problem.

That was my bad. I didn't check reports when I split it and Lives4Sharks didn't realize I'd already done that since I didn't update the report. But she's right, the horse is pretty well dead and there's another thread on the subject now as well.
