I think you can get away without either spare air or a pony bottle if you dive with a buddy and plan your dive. Of course if you dive alone and don't plan your dives you might need both.

How does "feeling safer" have anything to do with actually being safer?

OK, I should say "being safer."

You have less than a dozen dives and are already dismissing advice from people who have been instructors for decades.

From your signature I can tell that you and I hold similar beliefs. I find your attack on me confusing and against what you should have been taught on Sundays.

You believe Jesus rode a dinosaur?

My outlook on life does not include the word "impossible." I believe that Dr Wu feels the same and is brave enough to make a testimony to his faith.

I know that this is going to stir it up but really, if I want to have the security of bailing on a dive if there are problems with my air tank do I really need a pony tank or can I get away with a spare air (which is cheaper).

Peace.

PONY! Without a doubt...
But if you are insistent on Spare Air... I have 2 for sale still in the box with Full Warranty. I had to buy 3 to get one for my customer. Customer is happy, but I'm stuck with 2 I don't want. $200ea.

I have faith in what I "know". Not what I "believe".

And what I know is the gas I have on my back, the gas my buddy has on their back and the training we have gone through will allow us to survive an emergency at depth without including a tank we "believe" will be our savior.

I'm not sure why you feel this is an "attack". But..for the record..you are displaying every cliche seen in these "pony/spare air threads.

Not that there is anything wrong with that. Every new diver does this.

Dive safe

Is this a test? You know that belief is greater than knowledge, for with knowledge there is no longer a need for faith!

And what I know is the gas I have on my back, the gas my buddy has on their back and the training we have gone through will allow us to survive an emergency at depth without including a tank we "believe" will be our savior.

Salvation. A pony tank would be your mortal salvation. To say "Savior" would be to blaspheme.

I'm not sure why you feel this is an "attack". But..for the record..you are displaying every cliche seen in these "pony/spare air threads.

I have been too preoccupied with thoughts of personal insult. I beg forgiveness.

Why are you opposed to pony bottles? What if your buddy is not there? Do we not have an obligation to protect ourselves?

Thank you, Dr. Wu.

I have a 13cf pony bottle. I use it when I dive without a buddy beyond ~35 ft.

It will take me safely to the surface from my typical depths. <100 ft.

Can we talk about split fins now?

I have split fins.

They work. Particularly for the diving I usually do.
