has anybody been on this dive? from what ive heard your in the water by 5am (ish )descend to about 50m and wait..

is this dive still happenening? have any been seen?

i have read about sightings but no recent posts all around 2002-2006.

I WANT TO DO THIS DIVE!!

I am not sure the dive you describe was happening Sipadan, sounds more like Layang Layang. The DMs don't bring you down to 50m in Sipadan.

I have seen one hammerhead in Siapdan, we were on a morning dive around 40m at Mid reef it was in 2004. Last week we went every morning for 3 days down to 40m, off the wall and into the blue to spot biggies on South point and turtle Patch, we haven't seen anything...

Nope, sipadan i thought it must be layang layang at first. it was with a dive centre going to sipadan though ive forgot which one now though, doh!

Ummmm.. last time i checked going to 50m is going to skew your deco obligations if your just an open water diver and unless your technically certified for deep diving you will be putting yourself at risk of the dreaded chamber if you think that it would be safe going to such depths with a standard dive op. Not to mention you wont have any time at 50m depth to wait for the hammies anyway before you run out of air or reach your ndl...

Just in case you have forgotten what you studied in order to get your certification and unless you want to end up in the accidents and incidents section of this board please read the following article:

yes i have done 'deep dives'. 50m was just an assumption it might of been 30 or 40 probably done on Eanx i don't know. i am just looking for info on the dive if it still exists? most of the sharks have probably been killed for their fins by now .

I dont think any sane operator would advertising this publicly Big Fish. And there are not many operators offering nitrox in sipadan. Im not sure what you mean by 30 or 40 on nitrox because increased depth is going to push your m.o.d. at 32% mix you will be likely to get oxygen toxicity at 40m, even at 1.60.

Sorry mate, I didnt mean it sound too harsh but people who are very enthused about going beyond recreational diving limits 50m just to see a shark just doesnt sit well in my lexicon. If you have done TDI extended range or equivalent and the DM is technically qualified then that's fine but I doubt Ronni from Sipadan Diving centre is. There are places you dont have to dive that deep to see hammerheads. I saw a school of them at 30m in the maldives. Good luck in your quest...

lol that's funny although it shouldn't be... they prob just take ppl down there. i doubt it was 50m though as you said you have no time down there. people like to exaggerate these things...

wow, your lucky. i saw one in komodo at GPS. which i hear is very rare ( the 3rd one the dm had seen there in 8years). to see a school for me would be mind blowing!!

When I was working at Sipidan/Mabul in 2008, a customer took it upon himself to leave the group and bounce dive down below 50m to look for the hammerheads. He was banned from all further diving with that dive centre....

Several of the dive centres operating services to Sipidan do technical diving. Qualify to Extended Range level and I am sure they'll take you there.

If you do find a centre that is prepared to take you to 50m, without an appropriate certification, please be sure to let us know.... I think a lot of us would be interested to know about an operation that did that...
