I use my 40 lbs wing with the HP100 doubles, 1 AL80 bottle, and I always (when diving dry that is) dive with an AL6 inflator bottle. When I dive the HP100s, I also add a 3 lbs sausage weight.

With all that, the 40 lbs wing is just enough to float me comfortably at the surface.

You always carry the al6?
I need to start doing that.
There is something to be said about train as you dive

Thanks for the info

An instructor told me you "practice like you play" :) Yes, whenever I dive dry I use the AL6 for suit inflation.

What is the swing weight of your gas? 100s with 21/35 is around 10.5#, Al40 is 3.0#, Al80 is 6# which is about 20#. That means you have 20# to float you and to add a little extra lead.

And that Al6 may be 2-3# negative, but if you strapped a 3# lead weight to your backplate, you'd want to take 3# off your v-weight or else you would be overweighted (assuming you were properly weighted to start). The gas swing in that Al6 is only about 0.5#.

Thanks guys, you have been most helpful.
The big doughnut is gone.

I dive a 40# wing for double-100s and double-130s.

I made the 40# wing for 130's mistake once...It couldn't wrap around the tanks and was starting to bend the plate when inflated. It worked for that dive with very thin undergarments, but when the xm-450's are on with the extra weight, I don't think I would be a safe diver.

Maybe I'm wrong....I'm always willing to learn something new.

If you lay a 40lb Halcyon Evolve, a 60lb Halcyon Evolve and a Halcyon 40lb explorer (ALL Doubles specific wings) on top of each other you'll see that the inner "non buoyant" area that sits between the tanks and the backplate is the same size.

What kind of backplate is so weak that the force of an inflated wing could bend it? How could it be strong enough to support the weight of the tanks? No way could that happen with my Halcyon SS backplate.

Aluminium plate?

Sorry, American forum. Aluminum plate ?
