if I would like to go for solo dive and the diveshop requires my cert for solo dive, but I do not have but I have a divemaster cert. Am I allow to rent the tank and go for solo diving?

If you rent a tank do you need to prove that you have a buddy to dive with?

R..

As long as you are not diving off a boat that requires a solo cert you can do whatever you want. The shop does not have to know. Just go, rent the tank, and dive. This is why many of us have our own tanks. We dive when we want to. Don't need anyone's permission.

the last time I went to Bali, they require a buddy, but that time I was only a AOW diver and I had a buddy with me. I rent my tank at Tulamben. :)

another question if i dive solo, am I covered by DAN as I am not cert as solo diver.

Also some places require solo diver cert. I am not sure if DM cert is enough for me to do solo diving a not too.

do you guys solo dive without stage tank?

Whether a dive shop will honor a DM cert. as equivalent to a solo cert. depends on the dive shop in question, so there's no blanket answer. The local dive quarry in southwestern KY would not, I believe, but you're in Singapore, so there's no way to know but to ask the shop in question.

Thus far I use a stage tank for solo; a redundant gas supply is probably the most critical piece of add-on equipment recommended for solo diving, given that you don't have a buddy for redundancy.

Richard.

if I can solo dive in Singapore or at Tioman, Malaysia, I will not. There isn't any reason for me to dive there as the vis isn't that good. the risk is much higher and I will not take that risk.

might think of purchasing spare air if I really have a lot of chance to go for solo diving. I can only think of Bali. Tulamben for solo diving and they don't rent stage tank. :(

Some locations and operators will have policies about solo diving. Others will not.

Since having a solo cert seems to be a "thing" where you live, what would stop you from taking the course?

You might need to ask that question directly to DAN.

A DM cert in my mind is a teaching qualification as opposed to a diving qualification. As a DM you'll find yourself solo from time to time in the normal course of events and as a DM you should, ideally, have diving skills well beyond what would be required for responsible solo diving. I said "ideally" because I for every rule there are exceptions and some DM's really can't dive very well....

Operators will know that too and while some of them will probably allow you to dive solo with a DM certification, others may not.

I normally dive with fully redundant twins so if I'm diving withing the NDL's I'll normally not bother with a stage tank. If your kit is not fully redundant then I would highly recommend a small stage bottle for bail out in the case of a equipment malfunction. In all cases having full redundancy is important but knowing your gear and being able to take advantage of that redundancy is even more important.

Haha. I know some DM can't really dive well. I saw before a DM fin like OW!!! And I had dive with a DM and he didn't wait for me as I was his buddy and the whole dive group was just two of us!

My downfall for my DM is, I am still not very good in giving presentation to customers for the briefing. :(

I think I will take my solo dive after I complete my DM course.
