I really like these: BC/Harness Weight Pocket
I use them on my rental and training rigs. They are made for bp/w. They have three belt loops. Two for the waist belt and one the shoulder strap goes through to hold it tight to the backplate. Top load with bottom dump.

I like the approach of top load and bottom dump! But can you see it? Is it on your waist or attached to the backplate so you have to reach back? I would like to get the weight on my hips at the sides.

Its on your waist, back towards the backplate. The release is just about where your hip bone is.

Those babies are $136 a pair. Can one release them in an emergency with thick gloves on?

These?
XS Scuba Pocket Weight Belts

Do you mount them upside-down for easy ditching? If so, I am concerned that only a 2" x 2" velcro strap prevents them from opening. If I mount them right-side-up, then it's not so easy to ditch the weights in an emergency.

I like the MAKO belt, too. But I have been unable to find any pockets that the belt will slide through. I can get most of the other pockets onto my harness.

Yes, the Halcyon pockets can be opened easily with gloves.

I like these but they have only a large velcro pad to keep them closed. I experimented with mounting them upside down for easy release in an emergency, but I am not satisfied with the security. Mounting them rightside up will mean no quick release.

I think you are backwards. If mounted as intended for the XS WB101QR you pull the tab down which peels a large velcro latch free and the weight falls out the bottom. They mount right side up, which is the lettering up as you would read it. I have been using these for two years now and no issues. They are intended for up to five pounds per unit. I have carried five pounds in them, no problem, I feel certain they would be fine with seven pounds each. They do not open in use and are actually quite secure. Much more so than the DR 16 pound pockets also have which I had to modify to keep them from spilling the weight out.

Why use pockets on a weight belt?

so you don't have to ditch all your weight by removing the weight belt. Putting weight pockets on a weight belt solves that problem and takes the weight off the BP/W.

That's right, I also have been using them for a while and they hold up and work well, especially for the price.

Just curious, but does anyone use the DUI weight harness with BP/W for warm water? It's great for cold water, but didn't know if any of the cold water folks used it on trips to the warmer latitudes.

I take my steel backplate on warm water trips, so I don't beed enough weight to use a belt, much less the harness. I don't see why it wouldn't work, but if I could use just a belt instead, I would.

Very surprised so few responses discussed the option of the DUI Weight and Trim type harness. It has the advantages of:

a. Being ditchable weight;

b. Being separate from (and thus not adding to the weight of) the Scuba Unit; and

c. Being lightweight in and of itself thus being easily packed for travel.

The one downside is that it is another piece of equipment to forget.

And yes, there are times when I take it with me to warm water -- although I normally just thread weights onto the cambands and use a couple of weight pockets on the waist strap for removal weights.

I like it a lot, especially when travelling. If I have rental tanks that don't trim out like mine do at home, it's very nice to be able to raise or lower the weights and level everything out.

It's also nice because in the event that ditching weights is required, it's easy to pull up the flaps and start tossing out individual weights until you're happy.

flots.
