After many frustrating experiences, I use Dive Log DT on my laptop. So far, no problems, straightforward downloads, easy interface for logging dives, and supports Suunto DC better than Suunto software.

I don't even know why people bother with it. The Suunto software has never been good. I don't know why anybody would use anything other than MacDive, Dive Log DT, or Subsurface.

I have to used DM5 to update my computer firmware, and to customise the display. It is getting better. I also back up my dive logs on it. However I choose to use Macdive as my primary log because - we I've been using it for a long time and there is loads of data and I can view it across different platforms (phone and tablet).

In older versons if I connected my wife's DC to my machine I would have to restart my DC for it to recognise it again, the latest version of DM 5 has overcome this issue

Perhaps because two of those (MacDive and Dive Log DT) are Mac programs?

For Windows users, Diving Log (http://www.divinglog.de/ ) is another good alternative besides Subsurface. It syncs with DiveMate on your Android devices via Dropbox.

Hello,
it may be that another program is interfering. So first I'd close inactive programs running in the background, especially those that feature USB transfers... If this is not the case it's best to get in touch with the support team. Has it already been working or is the first time she is trying to download dives?

At least based on my experience, using a Mac OS v.10.11.2 with a MacBook Air, I a,moot able to download dives from a D6i. No other dive-related software was installed. I gave up trying the transfer with DM4 or DM5, so I uninstalled the suunto software and purchased Dive Log DT. best, Charlie

Subsurface is platform independent. And considering the post above mine specifically mentioned Diving Log DT, I bothered to mention Mac programs as well.

In DM3.1 I could attach all our computers and generate dive logs for each of us (Me, Wife and 2 children).
They could each be opened by selcting a different user from within the DM3.1 program.
DM5 doesn't seem to be able to import these seperate dive logs into separate files, or am I missing something?

you didn't miss.
DM5 is stupid.
the database cannot be moved, and doesn't allow multiple users.

switch to Subsurface.
Subsurface | An open source divelog

Thank you.
I have already downloaded Diviac, which looks very good - loads of information which can be added, and well presented pages.
Unfortunately I am having problems linking my Vyper, and a bigger obstacle is that it won't permit me to add my existing dive logs from DM3.1

I am now going to look at SubSurface.
