His point I think (correct me if I am wrong Ken)...is that all of us have opinions and sometimes those opinions are not a reflection of those we work for and/or in a relationship with...whatever... However, Mr. Draker has not worked at CCDS in some time. It was pretty pubilc that Jon and I took over and own the store (with a few partners). I was a bit aghast when I received your messages to our companies facebook at 7:30 PM EST. I want to honestly believe that if I have an opinion about something personally people will not take it to heart that the SHOP as a whole also has those same opinions if it offends. Or am I no longer entitled to an opinion?
 
I should also note, that I do try to keep my opinions to myself for the most part. I try to focus on diving and enjoying life. Unfortunately too many are easily offended these days, and I don't have time to deal with that.

Why not? The only time we intervene in the naming of an instructor is when there seems to be some professional stalking involved or it's a conflict of interest. We only allow the naming of the victim after it's been made public in a place other than SB. You're making an assumption based on rules that simply aren't ours. Personally, I think the best thing for any instructor to do is to leak all the info anonymously so it can be posted outright. The truth always does better than conjecture.

Negative. The mods react to user reports. If I or any mod have a conflict of interest, we won't even participate in the discussion but rather recuse ourselves. The mods don't have a vested interest in SB's financial status for that reason. Those who do, save myself, are asked to not moderate. I am the go between twixt the marketing and community and I often refrain from even giving an opinion unless the mods ask me for it.

However, once insults are being thrown, all bets are off. You can have a zillion bona fide facts and one snarky insult may cause the entire post to disappear. Some will castigate us for leaving it up, some for pulling it completely down and a few will get upset that we edited their post rather than just delete it. It's a lose/lose situation with unreasonable people.

Fortunately for us, most here on SB are reasonable. They can read between the hidden agendas, the snark and come to an understanding about what (not who) is right. You might think I'm responding to you since I quoted you. In actuality, I'm responding to everyone else who reads this afterwards. Your mind being mostly made up, I'm trying to influence those who are still open to reason.
 
Attempting to get someone fired by crying to their employer
It's pretty common place here in the USofA. A few people who get upset about being moderated will demand the firing of the volunteer mod. They take it as a personal affront, when it's anything but. When I point out that I'm probably the most moderated person here on SB, except @Bennno of course, they often realize that the mod's impetus is to keep things as friendly and on topic as possible. While I can and do post facts, they don't allow me to insult others either. Thems the rulz. Rather than get butt hurt about them doing their job, I try to learn from the experience.

No, @Bennno does not get moderated all that often. He's not even in the top twenty. I'm just yanking his chain a bit here! :D :D :D

We are comparing apples and oranges. It is one thing to try and get someone removed from a volunteer position, it's another to try and get them fired from their place of employment for expressing their opinion. A moderator who is removed will probably still have a source of income, can make rent, and eat dinner.

I apologize for distressing you.

It is unfortunately that there are some shops that have attitudes. "You went there? We don't serve that shop's customers here." I wanted to know if the attitude was the location or the individual.

If I have a problem with someone, I address it straight out. I go to the source. I don't go back stabbing, gossiping, or the rest of the "hide behind the Internet". The business owner deserves the first chance to make it right. When I found CO in a tank, I didn't advertise it to the world, I went to shop to handle it immediately. If there is a problem with a service or employee, I ask for the manager.

Probably, but it's still common practice in the US. You may not like it. I certainly think it counterproductive for the most part. But it's still fairly common for anyone who feels insulted or otherwise victimized by an employee to inform their employer about the incident. You see the "1-800-how's my driving" bumper stickers on long haulers which is essentially the very same thing. Employers want to know if an employee is alienating customers or potential customers. Look how facebook is used in the non hiring and even firing of employees. You may not like it, but we meow live in a fishbowl...

Actually the employee should get the first shot at "doing it right". Even then I don't understand why somebody has to be immediately fired for making a mistake.

I was able to read the Cavediver.net pages before you had them removed and while you were not unprovoked you certainly did a great job digging your own grave and turning people against you. Then you bring the cave diver nonsense over here.

Tell me, if someone called you an idiot, would you go complaining to their place of employment? Especially if they weren't working when they called you a 'bad word'?

What you did was a 100X worse than gossiping behind their back or personally insulting them. You publicly attempted to cause them harm by complaining to a company you mistakenly thought they worked for all because they hurt your feelings.
