Greetings! I just finished up my OW last weekend and have fallen hard for diving! I've heard buy your last gear first, so I took that and ran. Picked up Ranger LTD (love it! I won't be doing bp/w, sorry guys) Shearwater Perdix (backed up by Oceanic OCi AI), and an Atomic ST1 (T3 was calling my name, but I just couldn't justify it). From what I've read, I'm hoping I've made the right call on this equipment!

If it gets you diving frequently and loving it you've made a great choice!

Don't tell your wife, but most of us tend to buy our last gear over and over again... just to be sure.

Enjoy the journey!

Welcome Turnpike. Take it from me (and most other guys here).... Get your wife involved in the sport. Then she becomes your ally in the constant quest for better gear!

As an aside, I see your location is Tenkiller... Do you know Joe and Alpha?

Been there, still there. My daughter and I took our OW class then bought our middle of the road kits. Always feels a lot more expensive when it's times two. Wife would have taken a contract out on me but I spent the "hit" money on the gear. Six months later and she was picking out her gear as she was signing up for her OW class. Turnabout, it turns out, is fair play. If you're having fun and enjoying diving your wife is gonna want in on the fun. She'll definitely kill you if your gear is better than hers, lol.

This is so true. My wife got certified just after me and she gets just as much gear as I do (if not more). Eg I got a Petrel in Oct last year and I just replaced it with a Perdix. She is now going to get a Perdix for herself in the next 1-2 weeks

Just last month she bought a full-face mask. I think she actually likes all the gear and gadgets more than I do!

If y'all have the secret to get your wife into diving, let me know. I've tried to talk her into it...multiple times, but no dice. I think I'm dealing with the "Jaws factor", although she's always interested when I come home with some sharks teeth

Sneak it in the house and hide it. If your wife finds it tell her it's not yours and you are just holding it for a friend.

LOL...so true. Sometimes I'll come across a deal that's too good to pass up. I've got a stash I'm working on in one of our spare bedroom closets.

Tempt her with a tropical vacation in Roatan. Expensive, but it worked for me. Well.. actually we went to Cozumel, MX. but it was a trip organized by the same people that are doing this Roatan trip.

Not wanting to dive in a lake - especially if the water's dark or chilly - is not all that unreasonable in my opinion.

Also, show her dive videos from youtube of dives with clear water lots of fish and no sharks. Sharks are uncommon anyway unless you go to an underwater pool hall. In almost 200 logged dives I've seen sharks on about 3 dives.

Well that's no fun .

We live on the NC coast so it's diving with generally warm water and good viz (well in the summer anyway). It's also kinda rare not to see sharks on a dive, especially the offshore wrecks. They are mostly sand tigers. They are big and they are "friendly" as they'll swim right up to you.

Sounds like a trip to NC would be fun! Going north for diving is kind of counter intuitive.
