I have written to Shearwater and asked if there's any chance the Perdix could be firmware upgraded to become a Perdix AI. This entry from the AI FAQ makes me think it's a long shot, but I figured it would be worth asking:

"There are only a few differences between Perdix and the Perdix AI.

The Perdix AI is capable of connection with a transmitter to display air integration information. The Bluetooth chip is Bluetooth Smart as opposed to Bluetooth Smart Ready. Additionally there are extra reporting features in Shearwater Desktop specifically for the Perdix AI such as displaying the tank pressure throughout the dive, your SAC rate, as well as Gas Time Remaining information."

I, too, just bought a Perdix not too long ago. I'm loving it, and don't require AI. But the option would be cool. Can't hurt to ask...
This is the email response I got back from Shearwater today after asking if a firmware upgrade would make my Perdix compatible to a Perdix AI:

Hi Dave,

Unfortunately we do not have an upgrade path from the Perdix to the Perdix AI.
The hardware on the Perdix is different from that of the Perdix AI.

Cheers,

A. T.

I just got my Perdix last year. Not even a year. I love it; I wish I had waited for the AI one. You've got to love technology.

That's sad but not surprising. Perhaps a path will be available for trading in the computer for the new version. Also note the price creep on the computer.

I only recently learned that Shearwater provided a diver recall display on their Petrel and NERD computers for the Diver6 system. Unfortunately, the receiver for that system is an enormous tube installed on the back of the tank.
Diver6 - System Hardware

I would love to see a collab between Desert Star and Shearwater on a compact homing receiver to find your boat or buddy (although that might cross too far out of tech computer territory and alienate the fundamentalist conservative base :))

$86, it's got new hardware in it, new/updated software, some R&D, despite, or maybe even due to using the PPS/AUP transmitter

BTW, Perdix AI is back up on the DGX website now

I purchased it for $779 from DGEx in Feb of this year. So for me the price has gone up $156 in 9 months. Not complaining; making an observation.

Trust me on this one folks, within a week, the old non-AI perdixs will be selling for 5% of their original retail price. I'm willing to do someone a solid and buy their old one for 20% of the original retail price!

I bought mine new (one month ago) from DS in JAX and paid $750 for it, the new Perdix AI is posted at $1,175 from an online retailer so that would be a price difference of $425.
So I hope that includes one transmitter then the cost would be comparable.

I think your comment is hilarious. You are obviously very generous.
