What innovation? I haven't seen enough to matter in decades. Applying new technology/innovations developed in other industries will happen if there is demand and there are more than two companies in the market. Even if you only buy Brand-A, they need to provide a motivation for you to replace what they sold you already.
Exactly. Whan was the last time ScubaPro, AquaLung, or Oceanic came out with anything innovative. You want innovative? Prism, Innerspace, JJ. And even they haven't done that much in the past 5 years. I'd rather see the old fossils consolidate and give some room for a full face snorkel or a pony bottle regulator or a (you get my point). And those of us who were around when Bob Hollis was innovating and Dean Garraffa was innovating and Jaques.... I'm not even that old, but we're tired. It's time for some young new millennial to innovate for a while.

IMHO the last true innovation in rebreathers was Walter Starck's Electrolung in 1968. They were all pure O2 or pretty lame simi-closed before that. Computers, software, and manufacturing techniques are all borrowed innovations from other industries with the exception of decompression algorithms. Even they owe their roots to discoveries and R&D largely sponsored by governments starting with Haldane.

Maybe it is just semantics but I characterize advancements in diving as adaptations and refinements rather than innovation.

Why limit it? An advancement can be just about anything. Price, availability, innovation, refinement, implementation or adaptation can all be considered an advancement.

Remember that there are two fundamental types of improvement (or advancement if you wish): evolutionary and revolutionary. We are experiencing gradual improvements over time. Now I've been in this game a short time, so I haven't seen anything revolutionary just yet.

About time it became official. Hopefully now some Hollis products can get off the docks, out of the containers and into the marketplace.

Interesting, too many dive computer lines with them now.

Not really. AUP does not own Pelagic, Aqualung owns them now. Hollis and Oceanic computers were Pelagic.
They haven't really done much with Liquivision, and the Atomic computers have always been high end. Suunto gives them a wide range. I think Huish buying AUP is the last straw for Oceanic as a major player. Hollis might be what they were really after.

Liquivision is actually no more. I know that PPS was bought out by AL but my point is that they PPS still made the Oceanic computers and Huish will either eliminate the Oceanic computer line (I doubt it), or, most likely, keep some of them. If they do keep some, distributing Suunto in addition to the "Oceanic" computers they have and continue to have will be too many computers and maybe confusing for the customers.

I do agree with you that Hollis may be the main target of the acquisition but who knows for sure.
