What exactly is an "elite" diver anyway?

I know many in the cave world that think of themselves that way but that's just because they're the hero in their own story.

If this is an anyway a serious post OP seek out the instructor and not the title. But it will start an end with your mindset.

You’ll know an “elite” diver when you meet one. He or she will come across like the guy below...and they will be sure to share their status with you.

I thinks PADI has some sort of "Elite" rating for instructors who certified _____number of divers or some criteria.

OP, be careful of such labels, especially as you start out. Focus on finding knowledgable, available, friendly, and patient instructors to help you build skills so that you can then develop those skills and gain the required experience to make you a good diver.

Macho/bravado behavior encourages excessive risks taken by the group or team. Humility coupled with experience and realistic self awareness makes you a safer and better diver.

I've been on dive trips where everything is a contest. Comparing their deepst dives, SAC rates, required weight, etc and nit picking each other about trivial items that may be overkill for said dive. I always avoid those groups.

What is an "Elite Diver" ?
I thought there was only "good divers" and "elitist divers", the latter being the ones bragging about everything they have done and using their cert cards as ninja stars to harass all the "good divers" out of the pool.

I don't know why anyone would like to be an Elitist Diver... though it would be understandable if all of one's friends are Elitists too and one really wants to belong

---
If one wants to be a GOOD DIVER then it may be useful to get some tech training :) one will get nice cert cards that way as well but please don't use them as ninja stars to punch holes to stroke's LP hoses, that is not nice pool activity :fear:
