May I ask, who exactly the OP would kill while making use of a fraudulent solo cert? LOL :)

He never specified solo cert…he just said “a fake scuba cert.” that could mean anything…I could make a fake cave cert…have a fake log book. Buddy up with someone who is an actual cave diver and get them killed when I panic. I mean he’s the one that made up the hypothetical scenario…I just made another one off of his…

So you are posting in a public forum that you intend to commit fraud? Good move.
Like this one time.......at band camp.........where I used a fake ID to buy beer...........but I drank it all alone!

PS...... Full disclosure... I actually never went to band camp!! So I guess that public statement was fraudulent.

PSPS....... I also am posting in a public forum that I wear a fully Non DOT compliant motorcycle helmet here in WA and that I fabbed up a DOT sticker to put on the back to help keep the helmet Nazi's off my back.

Since scuba agencies involved in litigation always make it a point to say that people carrying their certification cards are not involved with the agency in any way do they have a right to sue someone walking around with a fake card that has nothing to do with them either?
I am not sure what you mean.

Agencies do not deny the validity of a certification card that has been properly earned. What they say is that a professional is not their agent, meaning they are not acting under their direction while performing their work for a dive shop or as an independent instructor.

Basic scuba isn't that difficult and is relatively safe. Go to any resort and you'll see thousands upon thousands uncertified divers get minimal instruction, put a reg in their mouth and they quickly figure out how to suck air out of that reg to stay alive. My 10-year old went to a 'scuba camp' where dozens of kids got certified in a week.

I mention this, because taking a bunch of stage bottles (in the form of students) to shallow open water, after they've already demonstrated skills in confined water, isn't exactly the same type of risk as true solo diving. You have buddies you can't rely on, but they're there.

All I am saying is that in my experience that PADI is typically a real "stickler" about standards and technicalities. And an instructor diving with uncertified people is "technically" diving alone. I personally think that diving with my fully charged back mounted 19cf is FAR safer than counting on or considering an uncertified person as my emergency back-up gas source.

Like many here, I KNOW that I am a fully qualified solo diver even though I may not have the "CARD". I also know that there are fully CERTIFIED Solo divers who are not qualified, experienced or properly trained or equipped to dive solo.......particularly if certified to dive solo in warm water and then traveling to cold.

I was just looking at the SDI Solo cert requirements and from what I can see they don't even appear to require management and deployment of a DSMB...... Just an SMB... which is an entirely different ballgame... I know that it says that you will learn these things......and more.......so why would they not list something as important as DSMB deployment?

Also...... even though I can't find it I think I've heard that these official SOLO certs allow for a spare air to be considered as a redundant air source. Is that really true?

I totally and 100% agree with you on this. I don't at all expect anyone to issue me a Solo card. I just want to see a really good picture of one so that I can fab one up in Photoshop (just for me personally).

Regardless of whether the FBI cares, the OP seems to be an instructor and to be advocating they want to fake a cert card for themself. It must be a very unique agency for this to be proper professional conduct.

Solo and instructor cover different things and each have required mindsets.
