    Did you take a hiatus?

I was certified in '73 in Miami, did a lot of diving for 7 years and then move to central Texas due to work, sold my gear. A few years ago I returned to live in Florida and one day I saw my neighbor washing down his gear, thats all it took to get me going again.

I'm also type 2. Many people don't understand what it is and that is the reason for all the fuss. I carry 2 small squeeze tubes of glucose gel with me on every dive. They are sealed and provide me with instant relief should I ever feel I'm becoming hypogycemic while on a dive. I've practiced...

    Vintage diving...what was it like?

Yep, a BC in '73. A must have item per our NAUI instuctor. I can't recall what make it was, probably USD or Seaquest, but I do remember the old horse collar had one 16 gram co2 cartridge, a thin hose oral inflator (which really didn't have a mouth piece as such), a pocket, and a over pressure...

    Vintage diving...what was it like?

I recall buying my first set up in 1973, I couldn't afford the extra $5 or $10 the J valve cost and my instructor always told us the extra bucks were better spent on a SPG than on a J valve. Our instuctor also had an power inflator hose for his BC and an octo rig, at the time we students...

    Vintage diving...what was it like?

Reading this thread brought back some long forgotten memories. I had been away from diving for quite some time and started again a year ago. I started diving in the early 70's. Equipment names like WhiteStag, Farallon, AMF Voit and US Divers ruled. My first depth guage was a USD wrist mount...

    Solo

Being unemployed a while I find myself going solo in the middle of the week also. I just can't resist it when the ocean is flat and I know there's good visibility. I have found it to be terrific for many reasons. Lots of good advice from the members here, pick and choose what works for you. I'm...

    Camera mount for gun

In Florida it seems everyone carries stainless steel hardware, even Home Depot, try ACE hardware. But if you can't find what you need in stainless, brass is a great second choice.

    50+ year old divers

New to this forum and just getting back into diving after being away from it for 27 years. My first regulator bought in 1973 was an AMF Swimmaster MR-12, aluminum 80 tanks were the craze, my BC was a horse collar with dual co2 cartridges, wet suits were either 3/16" or 1/4", I don't recall them...
