Just my 2 cents... ;)

First time diving in the keys, not used to so many boats moored along the same reef. Swam about 40 minutes out against the current, and about 25 minutes back, apparently overshot the correct boat and ended up almost boarding the wrong dive boat! :) We had to get towed back to our boat...

Today was a little sporty...2-4' chop, mild/moderate South running current, East wind 15-20mph. Water was about 76-78 20ft down, viz was poor (like 5-10ft max). Hopefully it'll get better this week.

Swimming was key for my course. For the surf rescues, (6 I think in total), our DM "victim" swam out about 75 yards, we had to swim out, solve the problem/dismantle the gear as needed, tow him in, then carry him onto the shore. Although we were tired at the end of the day, it was certainly...

My brother and I are members of GCS... but we dive about 1-2x a week outside of the group as well. PM if you ever need another dive buddy or 2.

I've seen them a few times as well. I'd be interested to know what they are as well. Seem solid, but smooth.

I've seen plenty of solo divers go out on dive boats. Most times the DM tries to pair singles up, but if you politely decline, provided there are enough dive flags (or you have your own) they let you go.

Interesting experience. I thought the waterproof ones from Olympus were ok to be submerged (for snorkeling purposes) up to 33 feet. I know I've had some experiences with equipment that were truly water resistant (ie can get splashed but that's about it) but the box said "water proof".

My brother and I took OW. We didn't really feel comfortable doing ocean dives just ourselves, so we took AOW just to get the additional dives and experience in the ocean. Worked out well, although we were nervous doing our first couple dives outside of the classes, the added time enabled us...

Had the same issue... especially on a new mouth piece. 15 dives later, it has resolved.
