If your BC is worn at all, I've got one of these that is in really good shape for $50 shipped to US address. Pics are in classified section, search "starter BC" or my user name.
With the variety of jackets and plate/wing options available you owe it to yourself to try as many different setups as you can before you buy one. You don't know what you don't know is a good mantra to follow.
One thing to keep in mind is that a plate/wing combo will adjust to different diving...
DSS site says this plate fits 6'0" to 6'3" and is less than 1 lb. negative. You would add weight via belt or pocket, thus saving traveling weight.
If you need weight but are not concerned with travel weight, a SS plate may work better.
Hope this helps.
Didn't mean to alarm anyone with mentioning the scratch, its just cosmetic and can be seen in the first photo. The plate is located in the Portland, OR area.
size Medium, good condition, used for approx 40 dives and stored indoors. Recently been checked over by a dive shop, paperwork included. $50 shipped to US. I weighed around 180 when I dove this and had plenty of lift.
Andy,
I have a medium US Divers Cousteau that I am trying to sell, if you do a search for "Great Starter BC" it will come up. Don't know how many spare parts you are after but let me know if it would help you out.

I know wireless is convenient, but one line of thinking tries to keep things as simple as they possibly can be. This would involve ditching the wireless option and monitoring your air through a very reliable spg. I dive this way and like it very much.
Simple good, very good!! Just a thought.
Wow! A convert on the second page, it usually takes 3 or 4 pages of convincing before they come over to the plate side. Guess the convincing is getting more convincing. Good job guys.
Big advantage BP/W has over jacket is that it puts the weight nearer to your center of buoyancy (lungs) versus having the weight around your waist which can create a seahorse effect. I have found swimming horizontal is easier with a plate/wing.
Would strongly suggest the first things you buy are your mask, fins, and reg set. Then dive as many different BC's that you can. I know there is a bias for the BP/W combo here on this site, but after trying it I can honestly say it is for a good reason.
When I first started diving, there was...
I dive a SS plate with an LCD20 and have sufficient lift for me, but if I had it to do it over I would probably get a couple more pounds of lift just to have in case I ever had to aid another diver and provide them with lift.
The only way I would dive anything less than 20 lbs of lift would be...
