    Follow-up on Flooded Sunpak G-Flash

Less than 60' -YIKES.:11: It looks like I'm definitely going to try to return the one I just got. It's unused, so hopefully I can get them to take it back on the grounds that it has a design flaw.

    Follow-up on Flooded Sunpak G-Flash

I guess that's what I meant, has anyone had one of these that hasn't had any problems? It seems that the only people who have spoken up are the ones that are disappointed with this strobe. No one is saying that this is a great strobe, no problems. Also, I'm wondering how deep were the dives...

    Follow-up on Flooded Sunpak G-Flash

DAN's deductible for water damage is $250 or 10% of agreed value, whichever is greater. These strobes only sell for $180, so it will be hard to collect unless you can convince the insurance company that you paid at least twice that.

    Follow-up on Flooded Sunpak G-Flash

Has anyone had one of these that didn't leak? I just received mine from Helix, (wish I had looked for this thread before I ordered) and am trying to decide whether to send it back and go for something else. I can already see that the battery door latch springs are not going to cut it...

    propeller advice for 150 hp

The motor manufacturer should be able to help with this. E-mail their customer support with all the info you can give, including boat model, current engine and prop info, new engine, etc. They should be able to get you real close on the first try.

Instructor not sending in for C-cards!?

Had a similar experience a few years ago. My buddy and I had done deep diver and boat diver courses with an instructor we liked quite well from our experience diving from his boat. When we finished the courses, he indicated that he was "low" on PIC's and had an OW class finishing that week. He...

    Man I feel like a 100% wimp.

This sounds like Cathedral Rocks. I've seen the entry area, but never tried to dive it (mainly because I was warned of how difficult it is to enter and exit). You made the right call. We dove Folly Cove on Sunday, and most of us fell also, just enough surge to make climbing over the rocks a...

    Backplate?

Use a cobalt bit, goes through stainless like butter. I've also been told that the titanium nitride (TiN) bits work well in stainless, but I already have the cobalts , so haven't actually tried one.

    Rumours and Rumours....

Guess again. Common building materials like OSB that cost about $8 before Iraq have almost tripled in price since, and that was before hurricane season. All because most of it is going to Iraq. It's still on the shelves, but it is having a serious effect on the economy.

    Visability reality check

The theory is that they came in on someone's dive gear. That or somehow carried in by waterfowl.

    Lost Gear-Poll :11:

It was during a night dive for a training class. Snorkel was required equipment. It actually got pulled out because I was too close to my buddy, and it got snagged on a hose. The new one lives in the dive bag.

    Lost Gear-Poll :11:

Lost a snorkel @ Dutch Springs on a night dive. Lost a pair if shears at Folly Cove, only to discover that another member of our group had found them. Then lost them again on another dive. Lost a small knife, I think somewhere at Cape Ann, but can't remember now. Have found a small light, 2...

    Shipping Tanks Question

I bought some tanks from someone in Boston a few years ago. We shipped them on a greyhound bus, with valves out and packed separately. No need to package the tanks, but tape up the valve openings to keep out dirt, etc.. Can't remember the cost, I'm thinking about $35 for both, but not sure. I...

how to get in and out of nasty surf

Removing your BC and letting it float in will result in it's destruction at this site. Nothing but rocks for it get bashed to hell on.

how to get in and out of nasty surf

This is not a nice sandy beach area, it's all rocks, ranging from cobble size to boulders. Not a good place to exit or enter any time, but especially in surf. Crawling out will be painfull at best.

how to get in and out of nasty surf

If it's bad at Folly, it will be worse at Back beach Made the mistake a couple years ago of trying to dive Back Beach when conditions were bad. Besides getting bounced around, the viz was zip.

    Air In Compass??

I've had 2 Dacor compasses that developed large bubbles. The first came with my original console. The second was the replacement that the manufacturer sent. I gave up and bought a Sherwood eventually. For the record, none of them have ever been on a plane, pressurized or unpressurized. They are...

Looking for an easily accessable dive site on LI NY

HI- You don't say what part of Long Island you are near or want to dive. I can recommend Fort Pond Bay in Montauk as a place with no surf, no stairs or hills and only a very short walk from the parking area to the water. The entry is almost level into the water. Not a lot to see that I have...
