Challenge: can Scubaboard collaboratively design a fundamentals skills course?

This topic really could open a can of worms. My input: (and it's not nearly as backed by experience as many of the divers, DMs and instructors) Is that for a true "fill in the gap" solution to be found, it'd have to be so individually tailored, that it would be difficult if not impossible to...

    First Bubbles

That is exactly how I was taught after struggling with it. My problem was the reverse though, in the pool I used a weight belt and it seemed like the BCD was shooting away from me, but using the steps that doc outlined, it was simple. And, TBH, its probably something I should do more often. I...

    Manatee Springs in Trouble

Is there a petition circulating for those residents of Florida to sign, or something that those that live outside of FL can do to help with this?

    Balanced buoyancy advice please

I would just spend a lot of time at the pool. Try the suggestions there, and keep tinkering until you get it. Focus on the whole picture as Devon pointed out above. Also, if possible, have someone record your attempts using an underwater camera or gopro or something. Then watch the video and...

Electronic Dive Log app, taking Suggestions for Development

I'd like to see an app that allowed for the whole "picture" of the dive in addition to a simplistic logging feature as we'd see normally. Imagine having the ability to bring in your pictures and/or video from the dive added into the log. You could add the pictures in or notes along the dive's...

Loving it. Remember the little sentence to remember the trig ratios: "Sally Can Tell Oscar Has a Harry Old Ass" LMOA

    Introducing others to diving

This is a big deal to me. I'm passionate about diving and want everyone in the world to at least know what it is. I worked out a deal where I get them to the shop to hang with the instructor and talk to him and he does a DSD course and all is well. He does it at a loss of money for him i'm sure...

    Basic Breathing Technique

I LOLed at the grammar tangent in this thread; sadly, it sorta made my day a bit brighter :)

At what water temp can I start diving wet in a 7mm suit

Seems like a noble experiment. Let us know how it works out.

Orange saliva after coming up from dive

IMO, when your health is on the line, its better to have someone qualified check him out. As always, no amount of forum advice, great that is, will ever replace the assessment of a qualified provider. Also, better to catch most problems while they are smaller issues because they could represent...

Welcome to We Are Water Project by Jill Heinerth

Just a post to keep this message current. This will be a HUGE battle in the years to come and it falls to us to make the preparations so that this precious resource is protected. Just as we'd protect sharks or whales, we need to protect our water systems. So, if you can contribute money to the...

    Skin Damage to Hands

"Aggressively Moisturizing" seemed to help a lot. I still got a bit inflamed and had a few bumps that were kind of itchy after about an hour in a pool, but much better than before. So it seems safe to assume it's something related to skin moisture.

Orange saliva after coming up from dive

Are there any other symptoms associated? The more information, the better your responses will be. Things to think about: Dive depth/time, any pain, trouble equalizing, stuff like that.

Not sure, but holding one over my head doesn't sound too fun. I can just imagine dropping it on my head...

    Dive Class Population.

I got really lucky. There was only me and one other person who dropped out after the first pool session due to not being able to equalize. My instructor was the shop owner, then in between the Confined water and the OW, I went back a lot to stay fresh and get additional practice. I got paired up...

Trying to figure out my new computer

I'm sure you'll get more information on the DCT. I highly suggest it. The courses are only a few bucks and added with an actual dive, can help you get a specialty course certificate for learning to use your computer. So, tinker, read, study, ask, and use your new computer. I've found that most...

asthma-how likely am I to get a Doctors ok

With safety in mind (and well, it should be), I would think seeing a doctor would be first and foremost. If you have a doc nearby who understands diving, awesome; go see them. Otherwise use the advice posted above and print out some guidelines from DAN and other sources to assist the doc in...

Putting together newb starter gear - a couple questions

my advice is to take a lot of the advice from the more experienced; then try it all out. Try different set ups when you rent gear or ask a dive buddy about his or if you can test it out. You'll find that doing this allows your kit to be more personal to you. I struggled with all the advice from...

    Skin Damage to Hands

I've been using the Eucerin moisturizer, I don't have kevlar gloves yet but i'll check them out. The gloves I have right now are a bit big for me, so i'm looking for different ones anyhow. Trying to get as much moisture in my skin before I go to see how it works. I'll be in the pool for a few...
