    WTB Neoprene Mask Strap

Some have a fuzzy backing for the velcro to attach, so that wouldn't work. At least it would be much less comfy.

    Dive master training recomendations

Capt. Sl8er (local captain out if Jupiter) did his IDC there and recommends it. I've heard it's a good operation, I was going to do my IDC there, but then school got in the way. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Why the Compass on the Left Arm?

Maybe this will interest you or clear some things up: BAUE Newsletters. Though it's part of the fundies book, so you should have already read it once.

Why the Compass on the Left Arm?

The Odds of an SPG failing are low. The odds of an AI failing are much higher. I dove an AI computer (Mares Icon HD) for two days before going DIR (not a fun story). I think any thread discussing AI computers over in the equipment forums will explain. I assume you are referring to manifolded...

    Backup Wrist Computer

The oceanic BUD is tailor made for this situation. It clips on your Bcd and you forget it till you need it. The algorithm can be adjusted to match most computers. It's relatively inexpensive too, IIRC. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

How to keep ears dry on a liveaboard? AKA how not to get swimmers ear?

Rubbing alcohol and acetic acid work well and are readily available. I like to add a shot of hydrogen peroxide for the fizz and added antibiotic action. You just can't mix the peroxide in though, you have to keep it dark until you use it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Canister Light Wiring Repair

How do you put a loose wire back on the battery? Cut the shrink wrap and solder it back to the board? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Canister Light Wiring Repair

Thanks for the advice guys. I ended up sending the light back to light monkey for a general overhaul (the strain reliefs and cord were showing age too). It's good to know there's plenty of fixes that an be done personally though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Canister Light Wiring Repair

I have an old Salvo 35w HID can light here. Bought used on ebay. I haven't dove with it yet, but my bathtub checks were sound (produced light, didn't flood). I pulled it out to check it today and the wiring on the battery pack side came loose from the fitting. It looks like an easy repair...

Why the Compass on the Left Arm?

If I were using a scooter mounted compass I wouldn't be using in lieu of a wrist mount. It's just a more convenient option that may have not been around when JJ was writing the standards. Try reposting this question on DIRxplorers or another (DIR) board. They may have a more thorough answer. I...

Why the Compass on the Left Arm?

If/when you move up to scooter diving it saves the trouble of re-learning. A compass isn't something you need to be on the whole dive, you take a bearing and check every few minutes. Also, when the standards were written, many bottom timers didn't have back lights, so your primary light had to...

    DIR Requirements for doubles wing?

The Hollis C45 just came in. It feels pretty solid, you definitely want to undo and remove the webbing retainer though. The inflator elbow and opv fittings are crap too, really easy to cross thread by mistake. PM me if you want pics. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Choosing compass and mounting config

The trade off with the console is it's tethered to you, probably in a less than ideal way. To be able to raise the compass to view easily, you need to have a HP hose that is longer than with a bare SPG. The wrist compass eliminates this while still keeping the hands relatively free. Choosing compass and mounting config

You're completely right about the console mount. It's awkward to use, and adds lots of bulk to the console. Back facing mounts add the same amount of heft, it's just (marginally) easier to manage that way. If you are managing a camera, you'd want something handsfree, making wrist mount the...

    Cave diving in Hawaii?

The islands are mostly igneous rock, basalt from the volcanoes IIRC. You only get karsts in limestone and other sedimentary rock. Basalt doesn't react with acids in the water, so you don't get the underground formations (caves, aquifers, sinkholes) you see in Florida. If I remember Geol 101...

    Switching from BCD to BP/W

If you need 30# lead, the steel tank wont be too heavy. You can take some lead off if need be. I think that attached the spreadsheet. I downloaded an old version from the thread, and made some additions and changes. This one works well, but there may be nicer versions floating around.
