I know that a diveboat sunk this morning just south of Chankanab. Anybody know anything about the boat or the people that were on her?

Tourist boat devoured by water

COZUMEL, January 3 .- The morning of this Wednesday was recorded the sinking of a yacht-type vessel, named "Arrecifes II Dus", owned by Cozumel Scape Corporation SA de CV, which provided a service to eight tourists They were rescued by other vessels that were at the Curves Tormentos height, in the southern coastal area of Cozumel. Authorities conduct investigations. The eight passengers were expert divers and are unharmed like the two crew members of the ship.
According to company sources, the vessel "Arrecifes II Dus", registered 2304047814-5, is registered in the name of John Flint, belonging to the company Cozumel Scape Corporation SA de CV, which carries out various tourist services from more than 20 years ago in the town, with extensive experience the captains of the boats of this.
However, after 09:00 hours on Wednesday, a rescue report was recorded of a vessel that was crossing the section known as Curva Tormentos, located at kilometer 10 kilometers from the south coast, when it suddenly registered a problem that led to in which water would enter this, which forced passengers to jump into the sea.
Due to the boat traffic that is recorded daily in the area, being inside the Arrecifes de Cozumel Marine Park, the eight crew of Russian origin, were rescued by other boats that were traveling there, as well as the two crew members of the yacht, who could do nothing to prevent the boat from going to the bottom of the sea.
Although the port authority assured that it did not have complete information until the end of the edition, the version of the crew to travelers of tourism services, indicated, the problem was derived by a failure in the "press stope", which according to a captain of the locality, it is a graphitized thread that serves so that in the axis and the transmission does not enter the water, presuming in this case that the strong swell could have been the cause of that this failed, to which it was added that the pumps of bailing were useless to avoid the total sinking of the boat.
Meanwhile, the eight crew members and two passengers were taken by other boats to the facilities of La Caleta, where the Life medical unit went, who attended to the castaways who were without any injury, except for two tourists who were still there. Nervous, despite the experience in diving that ensured having most of these.
Staff of the Secretariat of the Navy -Armada of Mexico, responded to the call for help, so from the Naval Search and Rescue Station (Ensar) came a Defender-type vessel to support the crew of the boat, although the immediate rescue of these had been achieved. It is expected that the naval could continue supporting the owners of the boat to rescue it, while the authority continues with the necessary investigations.
It should be mentioned that last November there was a similar case of sinking a boat in which just over 90 passengers and crew traveled, events that occurred in the north of the island, highlighting that there was no loss human in neither case.

Glad all were rescued...now they'll be a wreck to dive there.:)

Wow that sucks, glad no one was hurt. Were the waves up today?

Events like this during a mild norte week certainly isn't going to make the harbormaster any less conservative...

There are some good pictures of the whole sinking and of it sitting on the bottom.
