My octo has a pressure guage... I use it... After this trip now you know to always maintain your supply cause someone else might be the one buddy breathing off your supply. Main difference with diving a deeper dive to me is you can shoot to the top incase you FORGET to read the guage occassionally. You need to make sure your buddies are scolded and ashamed for their actions... Your the friend, Id hammer a nail in their tails for this crap.
Another reason to always keep your dive partner in sight! ..So you can check his guages ... LOL
