I know this has been done to death on the forum, but I'm at a bit of a loss. I would like to add pockets to my setup to carry a dsmb, finger spool, and folding snorkel. I don't like clipping these items on as un-streamlined danglies, especially given that I would use them in emergencies only (I have never used any of these items outside of drills).
The forum favorite seems to be adding pockets to the wetsuit. That's fine, I can do that on my 7-mil at home, but I often rent wetsuits while traveling to warm-water destinations.
The forum 2nd favorite is pocket shorts, so I ordered the DGX neoprene pocket shorts. Even in size small, it's a ginormous piece of neoprene, which took over 4lbs of lead to sink in my bathtub. I'm not interested in adding 4 lbs of lead for neoprene that is NOT keeping me warm, so I'm sending them back.
The 3rd-place option seems to be adding pre-fab pockets to my BP/W harness. I'm a small guy, and there's just not a lot of real estate on that webbing - my bp/w already feels pretty "full" with a backup light and camera clipped to the chest D-rings, and a knife holster and two weight pouches on the belt. I could try to add a pocket, but any pocket big enough to hold a DSMB/spool/snorkel would, I expect, make my harness to crowded and clunky.
Is there another option I'm not thinking of? I would LOVE some pocket shorts in a non-buoyant stretchy material. Why would the manufacturers use be neoprene, rather than lycra or spandex or something? I just don't get it.
