Same problem as the original poster on 2 separate units with perfectly clean looking pins, good cords, functioning ports, etc. Batteries were completely charged prior to start. Both times firmware started to download and then I got 2 error messages: "Error writing firmware" and "I/O error". Now bricked. I have a trip in 2 weeks. Firmware failure procedure does not help. Any advice is much appreciated.

Since this was two units showing the same failure, with the Mac being the common aspect, suspicions fall on the Mac. But I'm transferring to the email you gave for troubleshooting this. It should not be hard to sort it out and get you up and running.
