Yes, I know... the whole DIR thing gets heated whenever it's brought up. :D

I'm not really after the DIR label, I just wanna know what's "supposed to be" and why.

I mean, DIR usually has reasons for everything, I just want to know why it thinks that things should be done a certain way.

I too want to dive hoseless (opposite end of DIR) ... when I can afford the TX unit for my Vytec, I probably will.

Another thing I want that DIR guys hate, is an Air2!!! Even non-DIR people disagree with me on this one.

My reasoning? I want as few hoses as possible... less clutter.

But that will all come eventually... I'd like to try out DIR... Then see which points I'd like to keep.

Sorry, but the Jetfins... are something I have no interest in. I'm happy with my Volos.

I am not DIR, but I found the whole thing very clearly explained there. For instance, I use an Air2, which you are considering and which is not DIR. The Air2 requires that when your buddy has an Out of Air (OOA) emergency you donate your primary to your buddy. DIR coincidentally recommends donating your primary to your buddy.

They then go on to recommend the long hose, on the primary, specifically for dealing with OOA emergencies. I found the logic for the long hose so compelling that I went to a long hose for my primary. I suspect you will get similar benefits from the book.
