Yea Baby,
Naw, just stating opinion. The original poster asked what others thought of Mares, and we spoke our opinion. Was it gospel? No. Do we feel that everyone must conform to OUR opinion? Nope - its a free country and if Joe Smith feels that his Mares is the way to go - power to him/her.

I just feel, from MY personal experience with the regs that I happen to own - that there ARE better regs for the money, than a Mares.

Could mine have been a lemon? Maybe? Could others like THEIR Mares more than I did? Perhaps.

That was just MY experience. And from the number of polls and postings that I have read here - most of that has supported SP's and Apeks as two of the best regs (or should I say - most popular regs) being sold today.

And at that said, I've added my $0.02...

Personally, I'd buy the SP or Apeks, given the choice and money.

Yes I am happy to say I am .

I based MY assesment on MY dives with MY Mares Axis...its OK, but I'd not say it was better than my AquaLung's....

But hey, if your Mares perform well on your dives to 200 ft - I'm happy to hear it! Great!

"ROTFLMAO!!Look out man...we got the Apeks gang vs the Mares gang all packin' heat and ready for a shootout. "

Hi Gp;

let them, bring it on!
a couple of months ago we had here (the Netherlands) a discussion between DIR people and some other people, oh yes one them was THE MARES specialist for YEARS!. Again they were discussing abouth the regs:) !
I tell you those guy's did nt had a ground to stand up! At the end they had no comment or argument left that was nt overrided by SCIENTIFIC PROOF ! they came with this argument that using a 7ft longhose would be dangereous !:confused: And that it would endanger somehow the IP. :D And that there were no actual scientific test results that would proof their argument was wrong. Well? Ofcourse it was nonsens, Apeks has already tested this (and SP as well later on in time i heard ) and there was thus emperial evidence that their argument were nonsens.

Why are were fanatics ? I dont like when people say things with out proof. What we have been saying, along with it came explaination. That some of you dont understand these .... well not our problem. Get your self a book! And read it your self! Much more fun that way!

again have fun, xerxes

I am going to sleep, it is 03:31 at night here. See you guys tommorow. All the posts that i will receive i will reply tommorow.

Goodnight everyone(also my friends that dont like Apeks :D, kidding ofcourse )

G'night mate!

Just having fun here - just idea's and opinions..

Just got off a charter today in Lake Erie bottom temp 42 f... 14 sets of doubles on board and most had a scubapro and poseidon combination or just 2 poseidons or 2 scubapro's. There is a reason that there is a lot of feelings against Mares!! Infact there regs do breathe very nice but can freeze... I had a catastrophic freeflow on my mares axis that is on my 50/50 mix no big deal just turned it off and on during deco:) .. This is the last reg in my arsenal that I haven't sold off it's gone now!! Here is what I dive now D400/mark 20 primary - Poseidon Jetstream on the left post. None have ever stopped working never froze etc. On my oxygen bottle Mark 2/r190 doesn't freeze not bad breathing. Alot of these regs have been choosen after owning way to much gear and field testing alot of stuff. So please don't be offened about the Mares comments some guys are just SHEEP!! and buy apeks because they are told to. Although they do make a descent regulator I prefer piston driven regs hence the scubapro's if I was diving salt all the time maybe a diaphram sealed reg would be a better choice.. But I don't have to rinse my gear!!:D

The most reliable of the mares regs that I have seen is the mr22 abyss. Hope some of this info will help make an informed decision
