A ScubaBoard Staff Message...
From another thread, but I'm getting the feeling that the mods are giving preference and protection to new divers who are also prolific posters (no judgement statement on the value of said threads started by these posters).
Generally, I think it's about right. In the last few weeks... it's a little heavy handed.
If that thread that you're referring to is in the "Green Zone" then yes.
The Basic Scuba and New Divers forums are going to be even more heavily moderated. This is an effort to keep these particular forums
a) On topic
b) Encouraging to beginners of both diving and ScubaBoard to post without being flamed or ridiculed.
c) Friendly
While all forums are meant to be friendly. The "Green Zone" is even more so.
It's not hypothetical, it has happened in the past and probably will in the future. However, not everyone is privy to what constitutes a controversial post. We don't always try to vet motivations as that is often hard to do. However, if we see a substantially controversial question, we just might move it to a more appropriate arena. If the poster has a history of posting overly controversial questions or hijacking threads to discuss their controversial views (POV Warrior), then might also remove the person's access to the Green Zones thereby eliminating the need to continually sequester their threads/posts.Hypothetical:
If someone was posting "provocative" posts to the green zone in an effort to avail of green zone protection, would the mods consider moving the OP rather than just modding in place?

When the OP accuses a moderator of attacking him ... which in this case, she was doing no such thing ... and tells her she should step down as a moderator ... wouldn't you consider that it's the OP who's violating the "Green Zone"?
In this case, I would ... because his post was not on topic, and was ... in fact ... an attack on that moderator.

... but a newer diver should not be able to abuse that special protection to make accusations and moan about imaginary slights every time someone disagrees with him ... particularly if he's in the habit of posting strong opinions. And SB staff shouldn't make a habit of enabling that sort of behavior. Scuba diving's very much about accepting responsibility for your decisions and actions, and that needs to extend to how people post here ... regardless of their experiential status.
Someone who posts strong opinions should be able to back up their statements or face an honest critique of what they've posted without either taking it personally or getting personal with those who disagree with him.
