I feel pretty silly telling this to the owner/manager/janitor of Freedom Plate International. I did something very close to what you are suggesting with no modifications to a similar backpack made by Aquacraft. I know the Healthways pack has a metal band and no "through slots" but it does have a bracket that can accept a U bolt (more like a D bolt.) Why not remove the bracket and install a set of U bolts and route a common type cam band through them?

I prefer my EZ Pak for a travel setup. ;-)

I did that on two backpacks. I like the one you have because it has molded-in handles!

If you like that, get a load of this:

2. with wing, cambands & the works in a carry on bag.

3. Mounted on a tank sporting a Kraken.

Is it my eyes or have bolt slots been added in pic 1 after pic 2 was taken ? Or just different Freedom plates ?
It must be your eyes, I would never modify one of Eric's plates. ;-)

Yes, I added (had a co-worker do it) the slots then applied Alodine to the entire plate.

Good eye!

Hmmm... it looks extremely well thought-out. One thing though, on the rectangular slots in the middle for the screws for those plastic, curved single tank adaptors (I still use them anyway) it looks like it might accommodate some, but not all, of the STAs. I have one that I really like but it won't fit my SS backplate (Blue Reef cheapie). It that just something that he didn't care about because he also sells Freedom STAs, or are the slots long enough but I just can't tell from the pictures? My OMS wing doesn't need a STA but my homemade wings sure do. :wink:

@JamesBon92007

If that question is directed at me: The EZ-Pak is designed as a lightweight, low cost, single tank travel plate. It is designed to be used with wings that do not need a STA. I put the slots in as I like to attach my wing to the plate. Plenty of people do not find that necessary.

If that question was not directed at me-fuhgeddaboudit.

Couv has it right, the EZ Pak was an experimental little one size fits all plate supposed to be a low cost (under $100) aluminum travel plate. I designed it to be used with the VDH wing because they have roll control logs top and bottom which hold the tank out and away enough that the tank won’t high center on the plate. There were originally no holes in the plate because it was designed to be simple with no additional parts and be held together by the tension of the cam bands only. I also made it so that no stainless keepers would be needed to lock the waist straps from moving in the plate, they can be triple threaded just like the top webbing slots. I pretty much copied the configuration of the Healthways pack shown in the OP.
A standard generic STA won’t work with that plate.

Are you still making the EZ Pak ?

He is trying to roll back the odometer to be more vintage. See how he went from 425 to 45? :) In the name of research of course.
