Myspace is great if you like dumping vast amounts of time into watching web pages load. Man I hate that site... and I'm SO SICK of getting invitations from porn vendors and solicitors that I rarely --if ever-- check my site.

Set it to a verification account, if someone wants to add you they have to know your email address or last name.

I don't see how not having your school on there makes you that much less of a target.

Oh, it's a little different when your HS graduating class had 38 students, now live back in that hamlet of 2,000. So I list the nearest city of 20,000+

Yeah, if you're irritated by Spam adds that'll work. I enjoy busting the Spam profiles.

You'll still get spam messages, but they're obvious without opening the profile - just report the message.

The legal ads are irritating, but it's a free site - got to expect that. If you load codes that cover up the ads, the account will be deleted.

AGAIN - FOR YOU MYSPACE NEWBIES: Phishing is your main risk.
1-Be sure it is http://www.myspace.com/ and not a redirect.
2-Never give your logon info to another site that has promised to load data into your profile for you.
3-Never use the same logon info that you do on your email account. :no

Seconded.

Just because you *can* have 50 comments with pictures and videos on your home page does not mean you *must*. Most of the comment pictures are downloaded from other sites so one page needs to make connections with 10s of servers. No wonder they can sometimes take over a minute to load.

Its the "illegal ones" that are the problem. I checked out a range of scuba people on MySpace yesterday - more than half of them were punting their local dive store. (Not links from this thread, I did a search).

I don't know that that's against their Tos - for a small, local store?

Phishing is the most common problem on MS, while Spam is a constant irritant, but Nigerian type scammers are also up there. MS security is working a little slower this week, taking days to delete reported spam profiles - used to take a couple of hours, but I see that my Nigerian scammer mentioned earlier in this thread has been completely deleted. S/he will be back with another profile, sure - but if more members would report like I do to accountsecurity@myspace.com with links and details, the crooks would be discouraged enough to look elsewhere.

Yeah I think they're okay to list their businesses on their pages without links or phone numbers, as long as they don't send spam messages. There is even a standard box where ms encourages networking info.

Links will get a profile deleted, and from the link you provided...

You all should be banned from SCUBABOARD :light: You all are acting like teenagers J/K I had to get one so I could keep track of my oldest daughter. SHe tried to get on Facebook with out getting permission and I found out and blocked her. I have not been on here lately or any other sites because we are taking care of my in-laws. Father-in-law has lung cancer, with PAD and emphazyma (sp?) Three weeks ago found out he has two months to live. Then Mother-in-law has end stage Parkinson. So we are chickens with our heads cut off running around taking turns staying with them and also trying to take care of our own household.
