I'd just add can fix air compressors, as if the boat doesn't run or the air compressor doesn't run, the business doesn't run.

On a related note, being an outboard mechanic might be worth even more. Does anything onboard need more attention than outboards?

I think it depends on where you are. I see a lot of diesel inboards in some areas, outboards elsewhere.

In my area, there is a good marine engine repair program that I plan to enroll in for my future dive op. The most consistent piece of advice I've received is "know how to fix your own stuff."
