I'm looking for feed back on a good dive computer. I need something practical yet tough. I'm pretty rough on my Equipment.

What's your price range? What type of diving do you do? Would you prefer a conservative one, or more liberal?

I've been diving with the Oceanic VT Pro hoseless and haven't had any problems with it. I dive wrecks, so it gets dinged every once in a while. I do mount the transmitter so it is not sticking up though.

Are you looking for air integrated, hoseless, other?

Aeris makes their version of the VT Pro in a different package. The screen isn't as nice as the VT's, but it is cheaper. I think the guts are identical.

The Suunto Vytec is a very nice hoseless as well. The algoriths are a bit more conservative, and the wrist computer is slightly more compact. Price difference is slightly higher for the Suunto.

The Uwatec's are sweet too, and they are marketed by Scuba Pro. A little pricey, but the screens are very readable.

These go for about $600 to $1000.

If you don't want the transmitter, the price goes down about $300 to $400. Or go for a air integrated computer on a hp hose. The price is all over the map.

I recommend checking out the readability of the screen underwater.

These may be expensive for what you want. ???

I'm looking to stay under $500. I'm a little afraid of the hoseless style. My luck I would lose it. I'm a commercial diver part time and my equipment gets dinged up. I don't dive Nitrox. Actually, I never really considered it.

Actually, the Aeris is more expensive by around $75.00 at most internet retailers. I actually just got one because I liked the screen setup on the Aeris better, but I guess that is just personal preference. You can get either one for around $580 - $650.

Man I got ripped! I paid $750 for my VT Pro.

I'm not sure if this is true, but the Aeris comes with a warrenty even if purchased via the web. The Oceanic defineatly does not. I bought mine through a LDS at a very nice discount.

Yep! 50% more bottom time when you get deep enough that you run out of time before you run out of air.

I really like the Oceanic Versa Pro. All sorts of beneifts, see http://www.oceanicworldwide.com/2004/p_computers_versapro.html

Bought mine at Leisure Pro, with scratch guard, for $280.

Gotta love Nitrox.

Have to say, one the one hand, I bought the Verso Pro for all the options it comes with, as well as the display, which I like. But... I'm on my third one in less than two years. One failure I am willing to write off, but two in a row and I start to get a little nervous about the quality of the product. 25 dives on the first one, 13 dives on the second before complete failure. On the other other hand (running out of hands here) Versa has been good about replacement. No questions asked.

This is the computer that has taught me to always have a backup.
