I dive with the camera all the time. If i buy something I'm going to use it. Thats what insurance is for.

That is fine, I dive with one also, a simpler P&S. But I just do not dive my slr or dslr because I love using mine top side, I just do not feel the expense and possible inconvenience is worth it. 300-500/pre-year to some is worth it to add diving, I have travel insurance for my toy just incase of theft or other unforeseen accident while on vacation.

Ron, the links here seem broken, but your vimeo site is incredible! Thanks for sharing your movies.

Videos should be embed into the post. Looks ok on my pc.

Thanks for the compliments on my vids. I'm going to be dry for a while, so I'm starting to get into topside stuff. These new DSLR's that shoot video are fantastic.

Big learning curve for me since I never used an SLR before.

videos look fine to me also.

Hey Ron, compare the resolution of the 2nd video to what you get shooting the FX7 dry on a tripod would you? I'm just curious.

Hey Ron, compare the resolution of the 2nd video to what you get shooting the FX7 dry on a tripod would you? I'm just curious.

I usually don't use vimeo videos for comparisons since it's compressed for the internet.

I prefer the video from my 7d to my FX7. 24p, shallow depth of field, coloring, etc.. Resolution wise, I've never done a head to head. If you read the reviews where they shoot resolutions charts, the DSLR's do not perform as well as camcorders.

However, in my opinion, the resolution is good and I never have thought it was worse than my FX7. If anything, the perceived resolution of regular video on the FX7 is lower.

Something in particular you are curious about ?

Here are 2 videos I made from the 7d. Still have a lot to learn, but having fun.

I realize this thread is older, but Canon released a firmware update to the 5D MKII that adds some nice features.
(From Canon)
1. Adds or changes the following movie frame rates
NTSC:
1920x1080:30 fps (changed - actual 29.97fps)
1920x1080:24 fps (added - actual 23.976 fps)
640x480:30 fps (changed - actual 29.97fps)
PAL:
1920x1080:25 fps (added - actual 25.0 fps)
1920x1080:24 fps (added - actual 23.976 fps)
640x480:25 fps (added - actual 25.0 fps)
2. Adds a function for manually adjusting the sound recording level (64 levels).
3. Adds a histogram display (brightness or RGB) for shooting movies in manual exposure.
4. Adds shutter-priority AE mode (Tv) and aperture-priority AE (Av) mode to the exposure
modes for shooting movies.
5. Changes the audio sampling frequency from 44.1 KHz to 48 KHz.
6. Fixes a phenomenon where communication between the camera and the
attached lens is sometimes interrupted after manual sensor cleaning.
(This phenomenon only affects units with Firmware Version 1.2.4.)

This is a topside non dive related video, but it's amazing and shows the capabilities of the Canon 5d and 7d.
