Erica, your story was part of this months undercurrent magazine.

That aside, if any of you are not subscribing to undercurrent, you should give it some serious thought. It's an excellent source off all things scuba and the best "go to source" for honest trip reviews.
I saw that - they had contacted me asking if they could use what I posted, which i had no problem with. While i did not know about them previously, I do now subscribe!

Glad to see Erica got some compensation. Yeah, the boat was free but not really fair to cost someone a large sum to take advantage of that offer and then not advise them in a timely manner to reduce thier costs. They must have put the same person on notifying you about the voucher as was responsible for notifying you the trip was cancelled. They won the best "dog ate my homework" excuse at their high school. Yeah, Aggressor employee, we know you are reading this.

I have to think future promotions, how it's handled, quantity or at least fine print, will be different. We appreciate the promotions Aggressor but there is some responsibility that goes along with the promotion you get from the winner.

So, this thread was quite productive:
- We now know which boats Aggressor might stand behind or at least more behind.
- That Undercurrent is cool AND helpful and I am joining.
- Who's secretly, to us, been a lawyer all this time. Positively or negatively. :)

And as am update- Dive Assure is actually covering my claim- which is the hotel portion (I used points so this is far less than it seems) and the early flight out of Oman to Dubai. While it was initially very hard to get information from them as to what would be covered, I submitted everything and eventually they had time to review and I am at least not out of pocket for the Oman portion of my trip other than hotel points and my original flight in and out of Oman.

Did DiveAssure give any reason why some things were covered and others not covered? Why hotel but not the major flights?

I think- without definite clarity on the matter- it is because I already had plans after the trip to be in Dubai for a week- and since I did not go home immediately after the trip was canceled they didn't count that has reimbursable.

That's something I mentioned as a possibility way upthread--that having alternative plans while over there, trying to salvage what you can, or in legalese, "mitigating your damages," might count against your case for airfare reimbursement. It's encouraging to believe that had you not pre-planned a trip to Dubai and just taken the next flight home to the US that DiveAssure may very well have reimbursed you for the flights, too.

I just got back from my "redo" trip to Turks instead of Oman and I loved my trip. The crew on the boat was amazing and I had a fabulous time, so I could say I would go on an Aggressor boat again :)

I’m glad they made things right.

Not to mention this is great advertising for them...

I am happy that everything worked out for you in the end. I love TCI, and would dive there any time!
