    French Polynesia in October

Thanks for the input, travelnsj. Unfortunately, the way the flights work, we can connect only to Moorea the evening we arrive. if we go to any other island, we have to stay over in Papeete and miss one day of diving. :(

    French Polynesia in October

My husband and I are planning to visit French Polynesia for 10 days in early October. Right now all we have are the tickets into PPT. The trip is only 8 weeks away, so we really need to make firm plans, but we're having a hard time deciding... We're leaning toward this itinerary: 4 nights...

    Blancaneaux Lodge

The Coppola family also operates the Turtle Inn, which is on the mainland as well, but on the beach (near Placencia) and offers scuba. I haven't stayed at either, so can offer no opinion about the resorts. I have visited both Ambergris Caye and Placencia, however, and - if you'd like to...

Headed to Bali. Are the Gilis worth a stop?

My husband and I spent 2 weeks on and around Bali in August 2003. We spent 4 nights in Jimbaran Bay, 6 nights on a scuba diving liveaboard, and 4 nights in Ubud. For us, this was perfect. The liveaboard went through the Gili Islands to Komodo and Rinca, and the diving was beautiful. (The...

Belize - Ambergris Caye verses Mainland

Any chance for your group to stay in Placencia? (I think it is maybe an hour north of Hamanasi). It's a decent sized town and we liked the atmosphere and restaurants there better than San Pedro. Also, the beaches were nicer than the ones we saw on Ambergris Caye. But mostly we preferred...

    Which PNG Liveaboard?

Silent Running & Rueben Cahn, thanks for the feedback on the Golden Dawn. As much as we'd love to take 3 weeks, I'm not sure if we could swing that right now, so we'll have to see... Allison Finch - what types of marine life do you typically encounter around New Britian and New Ireland...

Coral Sea January( Mike Ball or Taka? )

You say that you're doing a 4-day liveaboard, so my guess is that this would be a trip to the Ribbon Reefs only. To get to the Coral Sea and Osprey Reef I believe you'd have to go on a week-long liveaboard trip. We had some lovely dives on the Ribbon Reefs (which are part of the Great Barrier...

    Cancer Survivor Divers

I'm a breast cancer survivor - 10 months since I finished chemo and I've already been diving again in Cozumel and Kona. ;) I'm not in Seattle, though, sorry - and no way would you get me into Puget Sound - brrrrrrrrrrr! Cheers!

    Which PNG Liveaboard?

My husband and I are starting to think about a 2-week trip in July/August 2007, and PNG is at the top of our list right now. (We'd want to spent one week on a liveaboard in PNG and the other week of our vacation topside, mainly in Australia). I've looked at posts on this board and have done...

    Coral Sea / Liveaboard

Ditto slipslop's experience. We were there the last week of March and first week of April in 2005 and it rained many days. The trip out to the Coral Sea (Osprey Reef) and back was very rough. Maybe January/February are better, but research carefully before you decide!

    Looking for a Dive trip

You might want to reach out to Catherine, who is often on the "Hawaii Ohana" board. I know she's taken some great trips out of Honolulu -- including Bali and Palau -- so she probably has some helpful ideas and tips. Also, I remember reading that she used a travel wholesaler to get a really low...

Bali and Scuba Serya Trip report, Chapter One

Ooh, Catherine, I'm so jealous! We were there 3 years ago, and it's absolutely fabulous and gorgeous, isn't it?!! Love your pictures! :D

Best shore snorkeling & good diving?

OK, only one of these is in the Caribbean, but the two best snorkel spots I've come across are Waterlemon Cay on St. John and the Captain Cook Monument on the Big Island of Hawaii. Both require some effort to get to -- for Waterlemon, we had to park our car at the ruins of a sugar plantation...

We had a little visitor on a dive 2 days ago

Very cool!! I'm so jealous -- we missed it (and the recent hordes of mantas) by a couple of weeks! Maybe next time... ;)

    Shark encounters in Roatan?

We visited Roatan in August 2004 and had wanted to do the dolphin dive, but when we got there everyone told us that the dive was "risky" as a dolphin encounter -- the dolphins had the option of not engaging with the divers. For a "sure thing", the dolphin snorkel was recommended to us. We...

Had fun with Wanna-Dive in Kona!

We've just returned from a 12-day trip to the Big Island. We were there with a dozen family members, so only got in a few days of diving, but we went out with Wanna-Dive (Steve aka "friscuba") and had a great time. Steve and Bob are both great divemasters - very nice, and they make it a fun...

    Honeymoon location help

We just returned from the Big Island of Hawaii (Kona) -- we had a great time, but everyone kept saying that October is really the best month: great weather, water at its warmest, and few tourists (except for during the Iron Man competition, which will be 10/21 this year). Hawaii offers a great...

Best Place to Scuba in August

I've been to Kona in August and the weather is wonderful then -- very little rain and warm water. We just got back from our fourth trip there a couple of days ago, so clearly I'd recommend it. Assuming you live in the U.S., Hawaii can be a very affordable trip, especially if you rent a condo...

Getting married and diving, which island?

Hi there -- you can get a lot of information about getting married in Hawaii in general by checking out the "destination wedding" and "local Hawaii talk" boards at www.theknot.com. General consensus seems to be that the Big Island has the best diving, followed by Maui. But this is somewhat...
