I took a lobster/flounder hunting dive on Sunday with good results on the lobster side and a big zippo on the flounder side. Final tally on the lobster was 6 none of which were much over legal size.
The suit brand is whites with less than 30 dives on it. I hope it is not weeping but if it was would it only weep from the waist up? There was a great deal of water - I was not exagerating when I said dripping/wringing wet and there was a very sharp wet - totally dry line just above my waist...
Thanks for the hint but I'm 99% sure the garments were clear. I will make sure to double check this in the future though. I did have the cuffs rolled in.
I did my first dive and hunt of the year and bagged .... not a thing. I was looking for lobster and flounder and didn't see a single one of each. I am actually thankful I didn't see a flounder as I found out reading a fishing magazine after my dive that the season is closed when I thought it...
I did my first "dry" dive today. The "dry" is in quotes because from the waist up I was soaked, wringing, dripping wet and nothing below that. The funny thing is that I was quite toasty for most of the dive and in the comfort zone the whole time. I didn't even know I was that wet until I got...
I'll second the fact that the metals do not need to be touching for corosion to occur just to drive it home. I'll also second the zinc notion. Find a way to attach a hunk of zinc to or near the band and any problem that does exist will go away as long as you replace the zinc when it coorodes...
Man I'm slow on the uptake. Sitting here saying huh? what's he talking about and then it hits. I guess its always a good idea to pay attention to how one words things.
I take lots of flounder and fluke - yes they are different, put your finger in a fluke's mouth and it will come out bloody not so for other flounder - I use a pole spear with a flopper barb. I've heard about the swim into the bag trick but if I've got another one in the bag or some lobster I...
Looking at the price of keeping warm in my dry suit has made me a little sick. Searching around for options I discovered that you can buy thinsulate fabric. Utilizing dear mom's sewing skills I could have 420 weight thinsulate underwear for about $60. Has anybody else done this? Am I crazy?
Thanks guys. Some good stuff to consider. Someone asked about how I file my plan and I do that with my wife. I also have the towed dive flag and when on the surface I have an extendable 5' pole with a dive flag. I don't have a written check list and that is a good idea. I do the mental...
I do a lot of solo dives and my loved ones regularly express concern as I'm sure many of you also experience. I've read through a great many of the posts here and talked to other solo divers but I thought I'd post what I do to minimize risk and ask if there are other things I should have or do...
I just got a dry suit and based on my wet suit diving I am going to be in serious need of a pee valve. I have done a search here and found info on making my own but I don't know where to install the valve to the suit. Can anyone help me?
Greetings to all. I have been a lurker for a while and have really enjoyed/found useful the information on this site. I am not good about logging dives but I am somewhere around 200 with a great many of the last 80 or so being solo off the Scituate, MA coast hunting for lobster and other...
