FYI, All Lake Mich beach is public beach !

FYI, There is no private beach on Lake Michigan. All beach is public property up to the "high water mark", and the high water mark is almost impossible to define. Really, check it out. Alot of property owners try to "bluff" you off the beach front, but don't let those creeps give you a...

Anyone ever dropped weights in emergency?

I just want to get an idea of frequency. Anybody had to drop their weights due to out-of-air or equipment malfunction? I don't mean "by accident" or "during training". Thanks, Tom

Wreck of the Havana between St. Joe and South Haven

Thanks for the nice report. We have our 25' Bayliner docked at South Haven now, and we will visit the Havana in the next couple weeks, although we won't dive it till the bottom temps are high 40's. I will advise buoy status when we visit. We got a nice look at the Rockaway with our...

    Havana Dive

Hi Jim, Cindy & I (Tom & Cindy, we attended a MUD meeting this last spring) just started diving the South Haven area in August. We dove the Grand Mere Rocks from St. Joe a few times, then the Clay Banks. When we decided to dive the Rockaway it was a wonderful thing to see that buoy as we...

    "Open Water" The Movie

Michael Mcfadyen in Australia has the complete story on his website, under the "Other Dive Info / Dive Incidents section. The Director of "Open Water" has stated that the idea came from reading about the Lonergans but he never intended it to be a "documentary" on what happened to them...

    Assembling tank valves.

If it is the Sherwood K-valve (SVB5000) valve like mine, they have teflon coated threads which never require lube for the life of the valve

PST LP 95 Failed first hydro-Rare?

Do you mean that you fill the 2400 psi ( 2640 w/+ ) to 3200 ? I was thinking about buying a LP 121cf. By the way, I'm glad I bought my compressor before my first dive. VIP and hydro are only required for commercial operations, not for individuals.

Have our spacecraft placed bacteria on Mars?

Well, I just found this on Wikipedia under "Viking Mission" info: Each lander was covered over from launch until Martian atmospheric entry with an aeroshell heatshield designed to slow the lander down during the entry phase, and also to prevent contamination of the Martian surface with Earthly...

    Sport Pilot

I am a Private Pilot. Have owned two Cessna 172's in the past 5 years. Sold the last one couple years ago. Flew about 50 hrs a year, 2 trips from Indiana to Florida + Niagara, Myrtle Beach, and others. Got to where thrill didn't justify the money. Thought I had finally run out of neat...

Have our spacecraft placed bacteria on Mars?

I always say... If there was no life on Mars, There probably is now that we've been there.. Any thoughts ? Don't our spacecraft carry bacteria? Are they tough enough to suvive the trip, especially in something that is deployed upon arrival?

Another Newbie Q - wrist or console?

With a wrist, you can watch depth while holding on to ascent/descent line, and keep other hand on inflator. If you get console, you can get wrist strap later and switch. Check scuba.com for consoles, Aeris XR-1 w/ compass = $235, or they have a Tusa pressure and compass for $90, and...

Why didn't skins help slide ?

I ordered Henderson lycra skins for my wife and I, to help with putting on 7mm full suits. We tried them as soon as they arrived, (in the living room) but it didn't help. We were very disappointed that it didn't make any difference, especially after reading that it would. I called one of...
