Beware: premature Suunto D4 Strap failures

Suunto in the UK and Finland have occasionly sent extra straps free. The USA Suunto customer service seems to have attitude problems rather frequently.

I have a homemade strap from flattened, soft elastic (like you would make suspenders from) with a big 1" plastic buckle (like on a school backpack) and a bungee loop as a doublesafe. Really easy to use with thick gloves, steplessly adjustable, much nicer than any original strap.
 
Nothing is foolproof for a talented fool.
