Can you fill any dive computer with silicone oil?

What about Mazola? Or even Crisco? I assume bacon grease is out of the question..... But it does have an enticing odor that ranks right up there with Hoppes #9 if I can get the GF to put a dab behind her ear....

Technically any dielectric oil that does not chemically react with the contents would work. There will always be some volume change due to temperature, compressibility, and dissolved gases so a means of compensation is required.

The main disadvantage to oil-filled electrical systems is it is a PITA to work on the immersed contents due to the mess factor.
