Based on the Egg's plans and my desire to see "The Group" again I pushed off at about 7:30 AM and headed East toward PCB. I finally rolled in to the parking lot which wasn't all that packed around 9:00 AM and was met by JHayes and Andy Egg. A storm front had pushed in which did a nice job keeping everyone off of the beaches and the parking lot while we got our gear ready and waited for a few others to show up. I think the final tally was DeniseGG, Andy, JHayes75, GlenFWB, WJefferis, CMUFieldHockey8, Myself and a few others that joined late whom I can't remember... Hope someone can add them in!
We got some good BS'n in while we waited for the lightning to pass and by 10:20 we were on our way to a great set of dives. We decided to head to the right once we cut through the jetty toward the Gulf on the first dive and the viz turned out to be unbelievable at the beginning of the first dive and I'd put it at 25-30 feet (Some of the best I've seen here) and it wasn't long till I was over 150 Pictures into my dive! We saw a lot of nice fish including two Frog Fish and a large school of look downs. We had a great time and I took some nice photos and video. I logged 80 minutes with a max depth of 62 feet and a min temp of 79*, although there were some very cold thermoclines floating around! The viz tapered off a bit toward the end of the dive I think due to a couple of salinity layers and thermoclines that we kept finding ourselves in, but it was a great dive and Jason and I both got to play with an Octopus that Jason stumbled across for a good 5 minutes.
Dive two was a repeat of dive 1 both in the same direction and Andy's last dive in double digits! Splash time 10:20 AM, I marked a bottom time of 77 minutes and a max depth of 57 feet and the min temp was again 79*.
We hurried back for a quick tank change after dive 2 as the tide had flipped and the viz had dropped a good bit. Dive #3 would be Andy's 100th dive so he left the wetsuit behind and we headed out! We had a fairly big group with us this time so we headed left and played around out by the newly dredged trench and took some pics and played peek-a-boo with the Mantis Shrimp. We also saw a nice sting ray and I found another Octopus that I took the time to point out to everyone so we could all share in the joy! The viz had definitely dropped to about 10 feet on this dive and as we rounded the corner I could feel the current catching up with us as well. Dive #3 was 45 minutes at a max depth of 46 feet and the temp had climbed to 81*. Good temp for no wetsuit, huh Andy?
All in all it was a great day of diving after which we all headed to Capt. Anderson's for some great food and stories. A day later and I can still hardly move I ate so much!!
Congrats go out to Andy on 100! Great job man!
