Diver Lori - have you tried Ginger Altoids yet? My boat food (at least in the morning / trip out - seasickness hasn't been a problem for me, yet, after the getting in the water for the first dive) sounds very similar to yours - I like to have something in my stomach to settle it, but never more than a bit of somthing starchy, preferrably with ginger, and some sprite. I've found those ginger altoids are especially good for "that feeling" as you put it - I've only gotten seasick to the point of throwing up on the one boat that I forgot to bring them with me (now I've got extras packed in both my save-a-dive kit and my gear bag).

If I'm not taking a boat, I still like to stick to light, starchy breakfast before diving (toast, half a bagel, grnaola bar, etc...) but after diving I tend to get starving and crave meat, so a hamburger or chicken sandwhich works wonders. And, if I'm diving Casino Point, we can't leave the island without getting a Big Olaf (ice cream in a waffle cone - yummy!).

The Korean food sounds yummy, but just the thought of kimchi before getting on a boat sounds sickening - I can't imagine how painful that would be coming back the second time (sorry, but honestly, that's just a nasty thought)!

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Oreos yet. Sugar for that instant energy, complex carbohydrates for later, plus some partially hydrogenated transfats for flavor. The standard bag is just about right for SI munchies for all the divers on a 6 pack.

Crackers and any kind of fruit in between dives.

The best part after an afternoon dive is get cleaned up at home and then hit the local seafood restaurant and order up a huge Lobster dinner with all the fixins =-)

MMmmmmmm - Oreos!

My favorite was when the boat guy pulled a shrimp pot and fried up some big spotties and stripers for lunch - YUM!!

When shrimpies aren't available, most any type of chip type munchies work for me. I also bring Hot pockets to heat up during SI's since the boats I dive off always seem to have some sort of oven or stove type of appliance.

What do you eat when you dive

Depending on how hung over I am, Burger King Grease Units in the morning, snacks and sandwiches on the boat.

(Pringles = boat food)

I do chew Beechnut Wintergreen while diving, but that doesn't really count as food, even if you swallow it.

Post dive, 18-25 oz of something that used to swim, graze, or fly, heavily blackened/ fries, and a pitcher of VT.

Calories. Then if I'm on a boat, california roll with pickled ginger. Afer, whatever bivalves or crustaceans I managed to slaughter.

Ah yes, my favorite topic. Good questions too. I’m a boneless skinless chicken and salad person most of the time, but I pull out all of the stops n August. I spent a good portion of yesterday getting the boat ready, stopped by the dive shop and pondered spending money, and dreamt of lobster all day. Beside bugs with butter, I go for grouper, snapper, and hogfish.
