Tank/lead/gear sunk you. The water in your suit just removed the buoyancy of the air trapped in your suit. Thus removing your "lift" so all the other crap could sink you. The water as such did not sink you.
Ah, I get it. If my boat fills with water and sinks, it's not "the water as such" which sinks my boat. The water in my boat just removes the buoyancy of the air trapped in my boat's hull.

Nice to know, but if this happens, I'll still say that the wave crashing over my boat and filled it was the reason for my boat sinking, not the outboard motor screwed to the stern.
 
I use a shell trilam. suit made by this out of business company called "Abyssal Diving" $120 for the suit $250 for self repair. = dry Me :)
