I'm a ham for old cartoons. (Scooby, dooby, doo baybe!) Thus along with my passion for "Caving" (.....err and Wrecks, ...Shark wrangling,.....etc.,etc.) I came across "Captain Caveman", added a 'lil Diver Down Flag and viola!

Hey all, I thought it would be interesting to hear about how you came up with your screenname or avatar. Hopefully others would too!! It can be as short or as long as you feel like typing it out. All are welcome to join in!

I will start:

I went tandem skydiving with my best friend Brianna over in Zephyrhills, FL. It was an awesome experience. She was really into scuba diving at the time. After the jump, the skydive outfit gave us certificates to show proof that we actually jumped out of a perfectly good airplane. They told us to put our names on the certificate, so my friend wrote Scoobahgurl on hers, so of course I had to copy her and put Scoobahdood on mine.

Good thread!

Screen name:

Trogloxene - is anything that visits a cave, but does not reside in one. There was an article in the NACD (nat'l association of cave diving) journal that referred to cave divers as trogloxenes.

My long term diving goal is to become cavern/cave certified - so trogloxene stuck

Avatar:

Is a Guy Harvey painting of a great white shark amongst the seals. Since I was going to (just returned from) Isla Guadalupe to see the great white sharks - I thought it was appropriate

This is a trick question, right?

Dr. Bill... I received that nickname back in the very early 1980's (before I was actually a Ph.D.). I was consulting for a company that offered ocean-based tours and their boat crews gave me the nickname because I was such a "know-it-all." In 1990 I decided I 'd better go back to graduate school and actually earn that name. The rest... is history, or is it hysterical?

Ah, the screen name there is nothing behind. I found the board, and wanted register quickly.

The avatar is from what use to be first my first love. Now bikes ranks way down on the list. I love riding, but unless the roads have constant corners I'd rather not ride.

My nick name, "Standingbear 56", comes from the name given to me by a Chief of the Hopi Tribe many years ago. That origional name, "Little Standing Bear", somehow no longer applies to a guy who is 300+ lbs, hense "Standingbear" The 56 is the year I was born1956. Yes, I'm 52 years young, and I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up - IF I ever decide to grow up.:D

So which came first, the Gixxer or the R1?

My last name is Battles, the "2a5" came from my position in the Summerall Guards at The Citadel. I started using that screen name when I was still in college and it stuck.

My name and the avatar displays how I feel some days on Scubaboard.

My Name: Well I dive, I have a well established Princess complex, and the E is for Emily.

The avatar is a picture of me in Anguilla.
