Lion tamers? They are not even authorized by the marine park so at that price of $20.00 you could actually buy them and not use them at all in Cozumel. J Unless you want to break marine park rules which really isnt the way to go about it. I know everyone has an opinion and everyone is an expert but why not this once try, just try to follow what the experts say? The fact of the matter is there has been time spent by several marine parks in the Caribbean measuring and finding the best option in the market. Finally, a tool has been authorized by the Cozumel Marine Park and there is a specialty course sanctioned by PADI. Also there are three different Marine Parks in the Caribbean using this tool and this program. Why the insistence with second tier tools with absolutely no program supporting it? Oh yeah thats right, everyone knows best, except the experts.
Jeez, I just saw the video and there are so many issues to mention that I am amazed no one has pointed them out
Where to start
1) The non existing handle makes it impossible to grip with your whole hand and allows control for aiming with only two fingers.
2) There is no protection offered from the grip as your fingers have to be exposed to the closest area of the shot. This causes the diver to almost definitely have to wear a glove
Not permitted in the Marine Park and you can clearly see the diver messing around touching everything without issue, (if we only had a grip)
3) The barb bends at one point which shows how cheap this tool is.
4) The diver begins to poke around beneath a coral lifting up sediment whichsuffocates coral.
5) Where is serial number?
6) The lack of three prong option causes misses in tight areas and obligates the diver to poke around to finally get a hit. That is exactly what we are trying to avoid, let me repeat myself I may have not been clear, THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT WE ARE TRYING TO AVOID! This is not about going underwater killing something and because of that you are a lionfish hunter. There is a method to hunting, there is a system to follow and there is a tool in the market that offers the best conditions. Sure you got a hit but what was the consequence? Does everyone onboard agree with you hunting? Did you explain to everyone on board why you are practicing in this hunt? Did you have a buddy checking your air and depth while you were in complete catharsis following your lionfish? Did you go for the kill regardless of the fact that you didnt have a clear shot? How did you extract the lionfish? Who did you inform of your kill and extraction? Does your tool have a serial number permitting the proper authorities to follow your tool and find its improper use should you lose it, lend it or misplace it? Were you obligated to take a course in the proper use of the tool, one about the history lionfish and one regarding the Marine Park strategy to combat the lion fish?
7) The tip of the tool is exposed throughout the dive.
8) You can see at 1:11 that the diver has to hold down the lionfish against the ground and almost is pricked because the prong being so thin and having one point the lion fish can swim away even after being hit.
