Two hours????? What the eff was he doing? Even if all the doors were jammed shut he could have wound down (possibly) or broken a window and swum to the surface. It would be a cold day in hell before I would sit in a submerged car waiting to be rescued.
well you have one thing right, being plunged into muddy raging water trapped inside a car might very well seem like a cold day in hell

While these type statements could (given a certain specific set of circumstances) be valid . Because the lack of actual specific info or FACTS as we like to call them and because of numerous possible countering alternatives , such declarations are pure speculation at best fall somewhere between way premature, to N/A. Sort of the height of arm chair quarterbacking.

Circumstances like, oh say just off the top of my head
#1 if the windows are electric as soon as the battery shorts out , they may not work not to mention the pressure as some have stated.
# 2 without some hard tool, it may be next to impossible from inside the car to generate enough momentum ( especially under water) to actually) break auto glass ever tried ?????????????????
#3 And last maybe the victim doesn't know how to swim and was in a state of panic we just don"t know .

You have no idea what the conditions of a floored river in Colorado look like... fast forward to 4:45 to see the conditions this guy was in

Imagine a car submerged in something like that, water is extremely powerful, it carves through solid rock, it washes away bridges, it destroys houses and road ways...

Any car submerged in a flooded river like that, the noise alone would be deafening inside the car, the car would be continually hammered, shaking and vibrating from the force of the water, the guy was lucky to be alive and find a air pocket, he easily could have been drowned, held against something because of the force of the water etc...

Key words here are Boulder Colorado which basically is a small outpost of California transported and transplanted to Colorado. Nothing ever surprises anyone in Colorado if its origin is in Boulder. Many outside of Boulder would like to seal the border around Boulder and just let them do stuff like this to each other as much as they like as long as we can insulate them from interacting with the rest of the normal people in the state.
Hey, I grew up in Boulder, or at least close to it. Some Boulderites are a little weird but I don't think I've ever met somebody who would sue the people who saved their life.
People shouldn't have been driving with that flood. In AZ, they make you pay the rescue bill if you drive your car into a flooded street.

Ya I've already had some fun at Mikes expense over that comment so now in fairness to him. I will say my brother who lived in Boulder for 30 years favorite humorous quip is "Boulder 50 square miles surrounded by reality"

If you're too weird to live in Boulder you move to Nederland.

Wow, I'm shocked rescuers dove in that! I would not have. Hats of to those guys, I guess.

Not sure how deep it was, but that can be quite hard if not impossible to do. Ambient pressure makes it hard to open doors. That's why I have heard that if you think that your car might go in the water, better to have the window cracked. Yes, the car will fill up, but at least you will be able to open the door.

Very few cars these days have manual window cranks, so if the electric is out, so are the window controls.

He might not have had anything to break the windows. It's a good idea to have something in your car for that. I keep one of these in my car (cuts seat belts too!).

After the water is above the window level, the windows will open (obviously, if they're electric they may not work). Also, the doors will open as well, unless they're obstructed or damaged.

Right, once the car is flooded, equalizing the pressure. Not against a gradient, right (as in a car with an air bubble trapped inside. But I defer to your experience...

I'm just glad I live in a semi-desert climate. Of course even if a flash flood did occur here, getting out of my golf cart would be pretty easy... and I usually have my dive gear with me!
