Does anyone on here have the ability to run a similar dive on a desktop deco program (yes I know we don't know his actually gases but....) just to get a ballpark figure of where his first few deep stops might have been (just for ballpark, as I said)? I don't have access to a desktop program at moment, so if someone would kindly run it and post here please, that would be much appreciated. TIA.

The previous World Record holder (318.25m) Nuno Gomes has some more detail deco stop description here (also posted by @fsardone in his post # 60 on page 6): New Page – Nuno Gomes

Here are deco stops mentioned, gas mixture & body reaction to the depth environment in the article:
- 0m start @ 7:03am 10 June 2005
- 180m deepest deco stop with trimix
- 180m Helium tremor began
- 280m body convulsing
- 31 schedule deco stops
- 140m deco stop mentioned
- 120m deco stop mentioned
- return to 124m at 7:34am
- 80m release SMB with 16 deco stops ahead
- 60m deco stop mentioned
- 55m shallowest deco stop with air
- 30m deco stop mentioned
- Pure O2 in final few meters
- 9m 404 minutes has past with 336 minutes ahead
- 9m 100 minute deco
- 6m deco mentioned
- 3m 6 hour deco
Total dive 12 hours 20 minutes with 90,000 liter gas.

Kay Dee I do not usually post dive plans .... there are too many people ready to take it up and dive them.
This one is so extreme tha I do not believe any body would dive it but nevertheless I am I going to obliterate the middle of it just to make sure ....

In developing this plan I kept in mind I want a bit of nitrogen in my deep mix (a bit of narcosis is believed to abate a bit HPNS by reducing the speed of neuro transmission) and ICBD ....
What it cannot be mitigated is gas density, OTU and CNS. I am using my gas consumptions here for a normal dive to calculate gas volumes.

Also you will notice this is a 20 hrs dive and I did use Buhlmann GF 45/85. Nothing I would use for a dive below 100 also gas at those oxygen contents cannot be analysed successfully with a lead oxygen sensor but need more sophisticated analysis methods.
At the bottom the choosen gas (planning purpose) gives you an extreme exposute (2 bar ppO2). I did not consider a travel gas but probably using the 20/75 down to 70 meters would be a great idea, especially because starting with the 6/90 would kill you before even starting the dive ....)

DISCLAIMER this plan is intentionally incomplete, non working and if YOU DIVE IT IT WILL KILL YOU.
Study and discussion use only.

Thanks for editing your post and extrapolating that profile, but even before you posted, after having read the article you linked to (thanks!), I noticed something that seemed rather odd (to me) in the article's figures.

For instance, in the article it says Nuno takes the tag @ 315m ".........and has 31 schedule decompression stops ahead." Then @ 80m it says ".......from 80m Nuno has 16 further deco stops ahead."

If those two "sets of figures" are correct, i.e. he had already done 15 stops by 80m, and then has only 16 more ahead - and it is not a typo, then that was one a hell of an aggressive deco profile from 80 on up!

Be that as it may, more power to Nuno!

113145.9 ltr TOTAL
Which - according to my math - makes up pretty exactly 27 18L tanks with 232 bar in them.

(Assuming ideal gas law, which is better than a best case scenario)

Thanks very much for posting that profile, but you have NO worries whatsoever of me EVER taking something off a forum and using it, no matter who posted it. But good idea to leave out the mid range stops just the same.

Anyway, again thanks for running it, it puts some perspective on things, (although in fact may be nothing like what Sebastian did). The only thing I would have expected is to see some deeper, but further apart, stops (although I realise so-called 'deep stops' are out of fashion now). Still, it gives me something to think about.

Nuno is quoted as using "more than 90,000 lts" so you're ballpark on gas usage.

May I ask what SAC rate you used for the profile?

No problem.
I used 20 work phase and 20 deco (lt/min), but I use a bit less in both cases ... but considering the config ... it is safe to assume that SAC would go up

No doubt it would at that! And always better to have too much, than not enough.

Care to run a 15 'working', 10 deco (using other parameters same as your previous) just to see where that takes us? No problem if you don't want to be bothered running it. But if you do, no need to post profile, just gas usage. :)

And thanks for posting the previous SAC.

Even allowing for 15 lpm, 75% of 27 tanks is still a crapload of tanks.

ESPECIALLY if they are 18l's. A couple of those big babies on your back is heavy / cumbersome enough, let alone a bunch slung under your arms!

So using your method of just percentage drop, and Nuno's 90,000lts usage figures, Nuno's average SAC was about 16lpm. So no harm in calculating for a 20ltr SAC as Fabio did, actually on a dive like this it's very prudent.
