Sorry, where are the d rings for your stages?

Also, you might wish to consider:

1. SMB.

2. Reel for above.

3. Back up lights (optional but at depth its a toy to keep your mind off the rig).

4. Redundant inflator hose...if that HOG comes with double bladder???

Looks nice though.

Stages use the left shoulder and left waist D-ring.

SMB and its spool go in the left side pocket, though some people like to clip off to the butt D-ring, which is present.

Back up lights get clipped to the shoulder D-rings and are held in place with a piece of inner tube around the shoulder strap (see here)

One of the principles of a Hogarthian rig is simplicity and the "take only what you need" mentality. Backup inflators are not necessary, but that's a different thread entirely.

It sounds like perhaps you don't understand the fundamentals of a Hogarthian gear configuration, so I recommend this article:

There are also some very good images of a fully geared-up diver (without stages) at BAUE

Stephen Ash:
I really like Halcyon's STA with their cam bands and SS buckles. They weigh in at 2.5# and don't add a whole lot of set back from the plate...if I remember right it is just under an inch. The STA from Salvo looks very similar, is about 20 bucks less but doesn't have the SS buckles. I like the SS buckles... but they do scratch up the tank. I could care less 'cause I'm using Al tanks. But if I had steels it might bug me.

I must admit that the standard (new) pioneer with cam bands has bee my newest purchase.

I trained and got used to using the STA, but feel that the difference in stability of the STA (wider spacing) is almost negligible, wheras versus the closer back fit of the bands is a distinct advantage. Add to that one less thing to carry when travelling & less is definitely more for me.

Next buy the Evolve 40 for doubles (I dive warm...)

Cheers,

I'm interested in learning more about the weight pouches (or what appears to be weight pouches) on the cam bands. I am starting to put together a "partial" hog rig and I'm wondering what to do about weights I used to put in my weight integrated BC.

Yes, those are weight pouches on the cam bands...Halcyon trim weight pouches. to be exact. http://www.halcyon.net/mc/weights.shtml

You can put up to three pounds in each. I use them when I want to get weight off my belt in situations where my weight requirement is relatively high. I keep four of them on one of my STAs to make things easy.

The Halcyon pouches are somewhat pricey but there are some less expensive ones available. Hmmm...Diverite and XS Scuba come to mind.

dude
you stole my cavern rig
exept im using a 1959 aqua-lung aquarius regulator (old school), and i usually have an H or Y valve hooked up

Those of you that use the Pioneer without the STA, do you still bolt the wing to the plate, or do you rely on the cam bands/tank holding the wing to plate?

I bolt mine. Cam bands won't hold the wing in place by itself.

They absolutely do and will. The Pioneer does not ship with bolts because they're not necessary. They hold the rig together when no tank is on, but do nothing when the tank is attached.

It is, however a serious PITA without bolts. It's much more convenient to use an STA even if your plate will take cam bands.
